I found a fly in my salad yesterday

What's funny is I was actually thinking about bugs on the leaves while eating the salad. (Context being bugs on them while growing in the fields). Then I got to the bottom of my SECOND bowl of salad (didn't wash it after the first, so not sure when the fly was introduced) and there it was. Dead and floating in my salad dressing. D:

I didn't throw up but I was pretty grossed out. It definitely wasn't introduced in our house due to how dead and saturated in dressing it was. It went straight from container to bowl (after quick rinse). Also it wasn't a full grown house fly, maybe like half the size of that or 1/3.

This is what I had if you were wondering:

So now I'm kind of turned off on salad. Which is a shame because I usually eat the hell out of a big salad. Not sure how long this phobia is going to haunt me now. Maybe I can hypnotize it out of me?

Well. Thanks for listening.

Aren't you the dude who had an entire chicken foot in his soup one day and proved some other ATOT'er wrong with a sticky note pic? I would much rather swallow a fly than have an entire foot floating in my soup. That's just me though...

Sorry that happened to you. I would be grossed out too.

Haha you actually could but it most likely won't be necessary.

What you have to do to enjoy salads without fear again is twofold.

1. You should get a big bowl if you don't already have one and one of those big plastic salad spinning dryers that dry the leaves quickly and effortlessly. Clean the lettuce in a bowl full of water and spin it dry in the spinner. It's fast and easy.

2. Get back on the horse right away.

After a while of eating salads sans creatures from the black lagoon your mind will come to expect clean lettuce leaves and the fear will dissipate with repetitive good experiences. It might take some time though.

You do realize that ANYTHING you eat has bugs on it right? Many you can't even see.

I see 0 problem. You've been eating bugs all along.

That is not scary. The scary part is how many you have already eaten without noticing.

Would not be worried about a little fly. House flies are grosser.

I ate broccoli caterpillars once.

That happened to me at a reastaurant a few weeks ago, I told the waiter and he said "Please keep it quiet or everybody will want one."
