I found a company who has the Taisol 742092 in stock. Taisol direct has them backordered, and Nerdsbyte has them backordered too. If you are interested , let me know, and I will post the site.

Ok, The site is www.monarchcomputer.com I talked to a rep from that company this evening. Yes, they did answer the phone!. I was suprised myself since it was Sunday evening. They have aproximately 100 of them left. They will be advertising them on their website on Monday, December 4th. I paid $39.00 for mine. That included shipping. They are a little pricey. The rep from Monarch informed me that they are on backorder from Taisol. So get them while you can!

Come on people, don't start paying double what these things are worth!
The price will come down, don't panic and over pay, there are just too many other good hsf's out there on the market.
I can walk in locally and get a GlobalWin FOP32-1 for $20. or the FOP38 for $23.!
If you are going to lay out so much good cash just for extra fans and heat sinks, you quickly reach a point where you could just step up to a much faster cpu in the first place and not have to oc! Or oc the faster cpu later when the prices come down on the hsfs' as they surely will when the stock supply catches up w/demand.
Just be patient for now..........................?

clumsum,
You sound like just the person I want to ask for advice. I've been thinking just the same thing, that it may be wizer to save the money spent to overclock a cheaper cpu by just buying a faster one made to run faster.
My plan:
  1. 1
to buy a cheap, fast cpu (Duron600) but with a good mobo (MSI K7TPro2-A) and ram (Muskin Rev. 1.5)
  1. 2
to wait 6 months for the Palomino (hopefully faster and cooler) to drop in price

Could you recommend a good, QUIET, cooling device and case for this 1 harddrive, 1 dvd player system of mine?

One of the Taisol's or Alpha's or whatever.

Thanks.

bupkus,
Sure,..........there are many good cases and hsf's to choose from that seem to fit your criteria, I will start off the suggestions and hope that others will post and give you some second opinions.....................?

1) The 600 Duron sounds like the value choice king (last one I priced locally -so no shipping charge- was $55.-OEM version).

2) I'm not sure about the Palomino,........... but the price of the Athlons up to 1GHz. is getting lower all the time.

Cases,..........................the first one that comes to mind is the
Fong-Kai 603, not too big, but big enough,....... has excellent cooling characteristics w/no modifying really necessary and great quality for the price. (choice of two front covers, so it doesn't look empty w/just one drive bay filled.....and I am told the plastic side covers are quieter than the metal ones)?

The MSI K7TPro-2A sounds like a rock solid, budget choice, can't go wrong with all the accolades from AnandTech reviews and other MSI users.
(I have no personal experience w/MSI but would try one myself for the price!)

For HSF's I like the GlobalWin FOP32-1 for $20., if the fan is too loud for you just replace w/quieter one,.............if not enough cooling, just replace fan w/high speed one (you don't have to remove hs from cpu to replace the fan, just release two wire spring clips).
I have a Taisol CGK742092 on order - $17.95 + shipping, can't comment on it yet, but according to other posts, it has to be modified (filed down) in order to fit the MSI K7T.
