I found out that my DVD player will only play VCD's with my K-Hypermedia 12X CD-R's. My K-Hypermedia 36X's don't work, my Imation 48X's don't work and my PNY 16X's don't work..

Is there a way to find out perhaps what kind of CD the 12X's are so I can purchase more of these in the future?

Have you tried Fujifilm CD-Rs??? They are "rebranded" TYs (The Original and also the best). Best Buy has the 100 pack on sale this week.

The dye on the 12X looks the same as the dye as on the other K-Hypermedia's :(!

I'll have my dad pick up FujiFilms tomorrow, this sucks, I upgrade from the AD-1500 to the Onkyo SP500 and it won't play my VCD's :(!

I don't have any spare CD-RW's nor do I really plan on buying any. Maybe I'll get like a 5 pack or something.. But aren't they expensive?

They're not too bad. I can get 10x ones for 99 cents a piece.

How about you burn your K-Hypermedia 36X's at 12x?

-or-

Buy a generic DVD player which will play everything. Last year I picked up a generic Go-Video DVD player @ radioshack for $70 AMR. Sure the thing doesnt have hookups for HDTVs and other high end home entertainment systems, but it plays EVERYTHING I throw at it (DVD, VCD, SVCD, XVCD, etc.).

Now I also have the Toshibia SD-4800, which is their premium model, and yet it doesnt play SVCDs. However it does play VCD with remarkable clarity.
