I never finished it the first time, only got to the treetop level where you first meet the trigens. Just got a X800 and decided to try again. Got all the way there (thanks to my MP sharpening of skills) in a few hours and then some. I really forgot how good the SP game is. Even better with the eye candy cranked up.

Those trigen are tough, thank god for the shotgun

What skill level are you playing on? I just finished it on Easy (or whatever the lowest level is) about a week ago and am now playing on Medium (second from bottom) It gets a LOT harder. They move faster..especially the "human trigens" (the smaller guys w/the guns...the ones that are invisible)

The key to this game are the Night Vision Goggles. Without them, it is impossible to finish this game.

They let you see enemies in the woods before they see you. They let you spot guys up on hills, etc.
The binocs are a close second.

My favorite weapon is the AG36. Powerful, high rate of fire and grenade launcher w/no "dropoff". :D You shoot straight, it goes straight. You don't have to "lob" it in an arc like w/the other gun.

You have many frustrating....er FUN levels ahead of you. Wait until you get indoors with the Fatboys that block the hallways you have to run down. Can you say "Restart level?" You will.

Whats Frycry? The Hamburglar is stranded on an island and the Fry Guys are after him?

What got me to play this game again and again and again was the fact that I could do things differently each time I played the game.

I'm pissed at the game. I can't remember the name of the level I'm in but it's ridiculos. I can't do anything to avoid getting demolished when three trigens attack at once. I hate you Farcry.

Good freakin golly, I'm just saying this is a fine first-person shooter game. All you all just F outta here if you think I'm a sorry butt or don't like the game. Personally I think it's a great game.

I just think it shows the sad state of current gaming when people don't like a game because it's hard. It used to be a plus when a game was hard; except we used to call it challenging. Pretty much all my favorite games from the 16 bit era are hard and harder ;) imo FarCry is the best FPS since Half Life bar none. Well designed, a compelling adventure, beautiful visuals (if you have at least an X800 Pro, otherwise you're really missing out), and a healthy challenge (with the requisite 2-3 instances of cheapness - that's a rite of passage of most any truly challenging game) I hope HL2 is at least as good.

Yeah the one way they could make this one better is to throw in some puzzles. That would be cool.

Where do the night-vision goggles come in? I haven't run across them yet.

I think he may have meant the thermal goggles. I know I have those right now but only used the night vision for a short time. I was just complaining because I suck, I'm glad the game is challenging.

I'm on the level where you get the goggles now. It's my favor level thus far. This game keeps getting better and better. Enemies seem to be getting smarter too.

farcry does have a key, I think it's on the manual.

Yes I think Farcry is better than CoD. I loved CoD, but this game is harder still, longer, smarter enemies (CoD was like a shooting gallery to me, just wait for their heads to pop up...It's something to see enemies scramble to hide behind a tree, building, etc...). not to mention the enivronments and weapons/gadgets. Very cool game.

I think I'll give it a fouth whirl with all this talk:) I play hard all the time. But I use a scissor keyboard (like a laptops) and a Razor mouse which improves skills massivly.

The level I always die is at the main kieger compound (last level right before you get to kreiger) where thier are like 12 badass mercs in a hallway with rocket lanchers, machine guns, granade lauchers and night vision.

This game doesn't even really START until you hit the treehouse level. Everything up to that point is just fluff and eyecandy. This game has really gotten hard once the trigen are around.

The trigens increase the difficulty of the game logarithmically. It actually makes you have to think about how you are going to approach a situation to try to avoid them if at all possible. For instance, in one of the indoor levels I kept on running out of ammo trying to go where I wanted to go becaus there were so many trigens. Finally I was able to bait a bunch of them to a minigun where I killed them all of with ease. What a great moment.

I would definitely try playing through the game again if I wasn't having so much fun with Battlefield Vietnam right now.

Yup, the rocket guys need TEN SHOTGUN blasts to the head before they go down. They have armour on thier chest making some shots fail.:(

If you play on hard, two to five bullits will kill you making the mercs tough too...then you actually use those smoke and screen granades.

Here is a trigens tip;

When you start the night level just after finding the woman and you are on the shore wait a few minutes then a boat will arrive shoot the dudes on the boat, swim out drive it around to where you enter the jungle. Jump off the boat run to jungle edge fire a couple of random shots that will get the attention of the trigens in the area. Then run back to the boat and wait a minute. When the trigens emerge from the jungle and see the boat lights they freeze like deer in headlights then just mow them down with the boats gun.

I finally finished the game on medium difficulty yesterday. Took me about 3 weeks to get through it, playing about 2 hours 3 or 4 times a week. It was by far one of the best FPS games I've ever played based on the graphics, environments, AI, weapons, etc. I had a blast and I'm a bit depressed that my journey is over.

Now that I'm done, I agree with others that the ending was very disappointing but it didn't take away from my overall experience. And with that said, the last stage (Volcano) wasn't nearly as difficult as some of the others. Based on some things I had read, I expected to really struggle at the end but the conclusion was relatively easy once you got beyond the final leg of the Dam where all the fat boys are running around the fields of lava and you have to cross over it to get down to the final base. In my opinion, Rebellion was the toughest stage of the whole game. I spent more time getting through that map than any other one and definitely used more restarts there than anywhere else because of that firefight leading up to the Archives. And yes, I know many people got through it quick simply by running (ducking danger) but I played this game with the mindset of killing every single creature/mercenary along the way instead of avoiding them.

Will probably play some select mercenary-only maps on Realistic mode now just for kicks until D3 comes out.

Anyone else who has finished it think the ending sucks? I won't go into detail so I don't spoil it for anyone... but damn, did that suck or what? The story of the game was kinda boring, but it was pretty entertaining if you ignore the cheesy story and concentrate on killing effectively, albeit frustrating. I didn't like how the AI seemed to be able to locate you immediately after you fire a shot. In a dense jungle, if the dude next to you gets shot in the head, and you hear a gunshot echo through the hills and trees, you're not going to whip around and fire directly at the person the gunshot came from if they're hiding in the bushes. I think in their effort to make AI more intelligent, they made them telepathic :D

I can't decide whether to get this or Thief 3 first. Any suggestions? (probably a loaded question in a Farcry thread)

I absolutely LOVED the Thief series (tied with Half-Life as my favorite single-player game ever) so I was all ready to get that first, but then I played the demo for Farcry and was really impressed with how cool it looked. I plan on playing both of these before Half-Life comes out, I just can't decide which one to play first.
