The nearest walmart to me is 20 minutes away... Walmart FTW!

edit NUGGGIES!

Closest one to me is 30 minutes west, next is 60 minutes east. But they're trying to buy land to open up a 2nd store in the 60minute town.

So where do they get their goods from? The sweatshops in Somalia?

Once China's standard of living goes up, all our cheap crap will probably start being made in Africa.

Good, that will be another 150000 - 300,000 people employed (guesstimated at 1500 stores times 100-200 employees per store)

You have to figure they'll put some other stores out of business though, so they're not all gains.

How much does a person who makes $12,000 a year pay in taxes, anyway?

true, but it depends on which stores, of course. Target will not go out of business. Sears/Kmart, Kohls, Meijers will not go out of business. Yes, some mom and pop stores will may shut down, but they don't hire many people, rarely have benefits and don't pay as well.

So you're saying Walmart pays well and has good benefits?

compared to most mom and pops, yes.

Most mom and pop stores pays decently. Walmart on the other hand pays minimum wage, no OT, and no benefits.

oh, BS. I guess these don't count as benefits. I know a lady who has worked there. She was making more than minimum. And you legally must pay for OT. If Walmart doesn't offer OT, that's their choice.

700 employees for a Walmart Supercenter seems high, unless they're all getting very few hours. If everyone was full-time (40 hours) and the store was open 24 hours with twice as many people working the two day/evening shifts as work the overnight shift, that's 200 people working at a time during the day/evening and 100 working at night.

That sounds about right, I have a large Super Walmart (175,000 sqft) near me and I would guestimate that during prime hours there are at least 200 employees on hand.

Wrong, walmart pays much better than most mom and pop stores. I would say the average pay in the store I work at is $11/hour + benefits.

I have gotten plenty of overtime pay the past 5 years that I have worked there.

The foundation of our health benefits is to provide a choice of medical coverage options designed to protect associates from catastrophic medical costs.

$5000 deductible ftw!! I guess if you work there and need a liver transplant you're set.

I would have to disagree.

At least in the town I live in

My wife works and Gets $10 an hour

None of the other "retail type places would pay her within $2 of that!

i want a super walmart! but their aint any in northern Va... WHY?!

I dont know if there is a defference between Canadian wallies and American Wallies. I am a Customer Service Manager at the second highest volumn store in Canada and we dont usually have problems. Lot is normally clean, dont take too many returns, few complaints...

Line ups can be bad but when you are doing over a half a million in sales, it is kind hard not to expect.

And i dont get all these labor disputes I read about. I have worked at 3 different stores here and I always get in trouble if I DONT take my breaks.

Wages are higher then Bestbuy, Sears, ect and I get fair flexible shifts...

Perhaps there is something very different...😕
