I find the sound of a phone ringing absolutely maddening

I've found that no matter what sound you use, it's still annoying because it's sudden and urgent disruption while you're doing something.
 
That's what voicemail is for. I've found that if you don't want to hear the sound, install a deaf person's alerting device. It's a small light that sits atop your phone and flashes if a call comes in. IF you don't happen to get to the phone in time, oh well. Once again, that's what voicemail was invented for. 🙂
 
i don't even answer the phone at home anymore.

i just turn off the ringer and let the answering machine pick up.

Yeah, why don't they make a phone where you can select rings... like cell phones. I'm sure there would be a market for that.
 
You would REALLY find a phone annoying if you had a sleeping baby that wakes up when the phone rings. THAT'S annoying.

I actually have an alarm clock that wakes you up with the sound of a stream or a water fall or ocean waves, etc.

Select Edition Spa Relaxation Machine. 😀
 
I hate the phone. Usually I don't even pick up. Luckily our fax machine is connected to my phone line, so if someone calls the fax will pick up and start screeching in their ear after four rings. That way, you don't have to deal with those morons that call and wait 3 minutes before they realise noone is going to pick up 😉
 
I got rid of a land line. I don't like cellphones either. If you need to get ahold of me, call my neighbors if you don't have a computer.
