I find that Chrome isn't as good as the hype surrounding it.

I had an old version of Google Chrome on my computer. I rarely used it, because i preferred the interface and customizibilty of Pale Moon. However after reading some online discussions about how great Chrome was and how it blew all other browsers outta the water, i decided to give it a try.

I downloaded the latest version of Chromium(thats right chromium not chrome) and used it for a while, however i find that it did not quite live up to the hype surrounding it.

It starts up faster than PaleMoon, but thats it(to be fair, PM is running 7 addons and it has zero). Rendering times are almost same, with Pale Moon being faster by ~2 seconds some places(like the OT forum). Its rendering is a little different than PM. For example, links on forum are underlined too closely, which i find weird.

One weird thing i noticed in Chromium is that when you have 5-6 tabs open, and you switch to another tab, it shows a white screen for about 2 seconds before displaying the content. This happens even if the tab has loaded completely and is just sitting there doing nothing. Whereas Palemoon has instant tab switched that doesn't get laggy until 20+ tabs.

In most of the places that i checked, both browsers are almost equal. However one big advantage that PM has is that there is no concept of "Integrating my Google account" with the browser. I understand that its optional in chrome too, but the way it keeps asking you to sync your browser is a little disturbing. I absolutely hate the idea of Google recording my history and other online activity. Who knows, they might be doing without my permission 😱

Thoughts?

Yeah, those aren't official builds of Chromium and AFAIK there aren't any for windows. I suggest installing Google Chrome.

Are you sure it wasn't a google algorithm using it's "big data" to masquerade itself as a bunch of humans talking together? With Google's giant warehouses of data collected on people and their habits it would be almost impossible to tell the difference between a google algorithm and a real conversation... except that real humans would have no reason to hype Chrome, therefore it must be a googlebot. Busted!

Same here. Got tired of IE acting up after long sessions so I gave Chromium a shot. Other than Flash crashing all the time its alright. Don't like how all the tabs load when restoring a session.

Hi guys!
I am the admin of woolyss site. Thank you for the interest!

Are there official builds of Chromium for windows?
1) Sure, read my notes on http://chromium.woolyss.com/#notes It is clear.

2) Official download page: http://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/download-chromium These builds are not tested (= snapshots repo)

3) My site use official tested builds (= continuous repo)

Sorry, the file in the post above is an updater program...
1) No. The file in the post is the official installer. If you want updater, check http://chromium.woolyss.com/#updater

2) When you want to update it, you need simply re-download and install it.

Yeah, those aren't official builds of Chromium and AFAIK there aren't any for windows...
1) The Chromium builds are OFFICIAL. They use the Google repositories and the official builbot. Check links. Nothing is hidden.

This is why my site is known. The builds are official. Nothing is modified or stored on my server. You download the chromium builds directly from the official source.

Why there is no official site to download good Chromium releases?
Google prefer that users download Google Chrome (closed-source), not Chromium (open-source).

Suggestion, feedback, review are welcome! 😉

Chrome is a good browser. It loads fast and has an intuitive interface. It has a good debugger. The only thing that I don't find at Chrome is a button to the history files folder like Internet Explorer has one.

No, this is just another "Chrome sucks" thread, use Pale Moon instead.

You mean, it's just another thread stating the obvious. 😉

Seriously, I don't get why people hype Chrome so much. Despite Google poaching what seemed like half of Mozilla, Firefox is still the better browser. 😛

If it weren't for Google spamming ads for Chrome everywhere across their web properties, and their massive marketing push in the general media market, Chrome would've been dead in the water.

No dedicated search box. Total disdain for RSS. Far more of a memory hog than Firefox. Ties too closely for my comfort into the Google Empire (I prefer my browser to be neutral, thank you very much).

And in the most recent episode of hilarity, despite being years behind both IE and Firefox in implementing DirectWrite text rendering, despite being able to learn from their experiences (particularly those of Firefox, esp. since Google has hired away so many Mozilla employees and because all the developer discussions and code is public), and despite having what is supposed to be an extensive beta process (with canary and beta builds), they still manage to royally f*** it up.

I agree 100%. I'll also add that it has zero customization. If you don't like the way it's setup, you're sol. It's the Apple way of developing. Our way or the highway.

I agree completely.. I just tried Chrome 64 bit browser for a few weeks because of a problem IE 11 was having with NVidia's drivers for hardware acceleration , and I ended up going back to IE 11.

Chrome 64 is fast, but IE 11 is even faster (both in term of launch speed and rendering web pages) and uses hardware acceleration much better than Chrome from my experience.. After the last round of updates, the problem I had with IE 11 crashing on certain webpages seems to have been fixed! *fingers crossed*

That's fine but you kind of missed my point.
It seems every week or so we have a thread exactly like this one. Comparing the same talking points same comparisons same everything. They seem to all read the same as well and have very similar sentence structure. Call me paranoid but it's almost like the same person posting the same thing just under different accounts...

They all seem to have the same agenda. Push and promote Pale Moon.

Are they really that frequent, though? And if it makes you feel any better, I think Pale Moon is simply reactionary and also overhyped.

Of course it isn't. It's used by people who couldn't care less for functionality and personalization. What they want is reliability, speed and a a lot of room for the website.

Of course it's not good.

It has few features, its extensions are basically widgets, and its design is aimed for the lowest common denominator.

Thank you for making that site. One question though. Why aren't those setups digitally signed? I realize you're not responsible for it, but are you sure its legitimate?

inf1nity, this is a good question. Honestly, I do not know.

- The Google Chrome/Chromium plugins are digitally signed.
- chrome.exe for Google Chrome is signed.
- launcher.exe for Opera is signed.
- firefox.exe for Mozilla Firefox is signed too.

I do not know why chrome.exe for Chromium is not digitally signed. I found nothing on the official site, Google Search and DDG.

(Tested on Win7 x64)

I think there are more positives than negatives.

Chrome does give the false impression of being faster but when you use it and you are in a large company behind a very powerful firewall then chrome can really slow down.

You can disable the features that let chrome render on the server then get it pushed to chrome. This way Chrome will act more like other browsers.

I see. Maybe its a part of Google's effort to promote their Chrome and discourage people from using Chromium.

Certainly! Note that there is no official Chromium site for "simple users". The official site is development oriented. Google Chrome is the final product.
