I find myself looking very seriously at a Sony product...

The price is relatively attractive here, the reviews i've read have been very complementary on the whole, and the in-camera IS is always nice...

Lens? I'd like a nice prime...

Pentax makes some fine primes.

That's also in the running i suppose..i've heard the K10D is tiny tho? I've got reasonably large hands, the 'ist' pentaxes felt extremly small and uncomfortable to use...

How does it compare to the Alpha? If you were to recommend a prime for the Alpha, what would it be??

but but the D80 costs lots (altho i assume i could 'borrow' my old man's F80 lenses when i'm visting the folks?)...

😱

/dug heads off to eat a festive New Years Eve dinner with his folks and missus 😉

*wonders what the thread will look like on his return*

Sony makes some nice cameras, but the A100 is not their best work. Since they are relatively new to the DSLR scene and it isn't bad, I'll forgive them. 😉

Suggestions for a prime? 😛

Um, why are you taking my lame thread hijack attempt and dismissing it with a question that keeps this thread on topic? :Q

Happy New Year mate!

And whatever you do, don't buy a Canon camera (although, a 30D would fit your large paws as well as any full size DSLR). 😉

Ah but the *ist cameras were meant to be small lightweight cameras.
The K10D is designed to be more of a pro camera.
Check out Wesley Fink's recent review
He says the K10D feels the most solid, is the heaviest, and has the best build.

Pentax 77mm F/1.9 Limited
🙂
The Pentax 50mm F/1.4 only costs $180, while the Sony version costs $350 - nearly double the price for pretty much the same thing.
