I finally upgraded my video card, but...

I finally upgraded my video card, but now when I play BF2 it slows down alot especially when I cover alot of ground fast. during the times when it slows down it reads alot from the hard drive, basically I think that what is happening is that now that I load the games with much higher detail than before (800*600 mainly low and medium settings no AA) so it needs more ram to store all the info (Istill get framerates in the 50's even when it slows down so I know it's not the card). I currently have a gig and really can't afford another one right now so what can I do to solve this problem???

Turn the settings down? 😛 Its just that. BF2 NEEDS 2 gigs of ram for high settings. I remember playing on those settings with one gig, like you are with a high end video card. Lagged hard with all the texture loading. I bought 2 gigs of ram and the problem went 100% away. The lag in the game that resulted from the high settings and 1 gig of ram went from about 5-15 minutes in a server to about 20-30 seconds with 2 gigs. 2 gigs is ideal, however if you can afford a single module that has 512 mb of ram to add to the gig, you will be in heaven with loading times even then.

so basically, I can't even take advantage of my card's full potential without 2 gigs of ram? (what a rip 🙁)

Just turn the settings down little by little untill it's playable.

2gigs will help a lot in BF2. And it will also help in other games as well.

textures definately.

thanks! I lowered texture from high to medium and now it's great! 1600*1200 plays smoothly! before everything had to be on low in order for me to get 25 fps on 1024*768 (looked like sh!t) now it's awesome!
