My doctor has been after me a while, but I finally started taking it.

My cholesterol is 240; I don't recall the exact number but my HDL is high, triglycerides are low, but LDL is really bad.

I excercise and I have a healthy diet - guess its just a genetic thing.

By the way, is there any way to reverse plaque build-up in the arteries?

have you thought about oatmeal ?

cream of wheat ?

why take meds when you can do it with natural food.

I would suggest Cherrios, but I'd rather die than eat those nasty lil things.

Yeah, that's why I resisted taking it.

I'm 43.

I'm going to finish the bottle and them get some blood work done.

HDL is the good stuff you want this

Tri's are bad as well as LDL's

to lower cholesterol:
try exercising more
get more fibre
try taking no flush niacin (I use Quest Brand)

Cheers,
Aquaman

I don't think he wants to become an alcoholic during the process.

You might want to look into Protegra - my Doctor recommended it after my heart attack.

Woah... you shouldn't be takin ghtat. What's bad is not high cholesterol but a bad ratio of good cholesteorl to bad cholesterol. IF you have high cholesterol but a normal ratio of good to bad cholesterol you're fine. Also what's more important is whether or not you have low triglecerides. Low triglecerides = very good. which is what you have. Lipitor will be very bad especially down the line. It limits the liver in producing much needed good cholesterol, which will be detrimental to your cholesterol ratio. The reason you're prescribed a lipitor is the same reason why it's ok to eat fattening foods. Your liver produces 80% of your cholesterol. So eating cholesterol isn't bad for you, the only type of fat that's bad for you is Trans-fat... mcdonalds type nonsense etc. Natural fats are good, and are in fact very crucial for your metabolism. But i'm getting ahead of myself. Someone suggested it already, but you should read Atkins. I stress the word READ b/c Atkins is not just cutting carbs.

I'm already doing Atkins. After I was on it for a month, I had blood work done and based on the results, my doctor prescribed Lipitor.

Perhaps I should have waited longer than a month to get the blood work done.

I'll call the office tomorrow to get the actual values, I think my tri's were 70, and LDL was 145; I don't recall what my HDL was.
