Before all the dirty jokes start, I'm talking about the Illinois State Piano Compeition.;) Those of you who "know" me better know that I've been preparing for that competition for a couple months, which granted isn't that long but I was only performing three pieces. The competition is stiff-there are pianists from all around Illinois, I'm lucky because it was only about a 10 minute drive for me.:) It was/is the first event in the "St. Charles Art & Music Festival", which if any of you have been in the Chicago area you might have heard about it on the radio or something. With so many pianists, the competition is long. Actually, it's still going on-it is 2 days long, 9-5 both days. I performed at 9 today, making me the very first one.:)

The required repitoire was a Bach Prelude and Fugue from "The Well-Tempered Clavier." I played:

Bach-Prelude in C Minor, Fugue in C minor
Schubert-Impromptu in E flat, Op. 90

I played pretty well, I am happy with my performance. Most of all, I'm glad it's over, because for a couple of weeks it was crunch time, and I didn't really have the time to work on all this other music I've wanted to. Today I start!

I stayed around and watched a few of the other pianists perform, all of them are good, of course, but some are MUCH better than others. I'd say that going on what I heard, I'm about right in the middle ability-wise of all the pianists. Anyhow, just thought I'd share my sigh of relief with you all. Cheers!

What, Jerry Lee Lewis wasn't on the required repertoir?

Edit: Congratulations.

HAHAHA you guys are great.:D:) Thank you. I will be called with the results of the competition at some point...I think...

One more thing to say though: It was a nice piano! 9ft Kawai, perfect condition, I LOVED The action, the sound, the all around feel. I fell in love with that piano. :)

HansHurt, I'd love to have you all listen, but unfortunately I don't own any recording equipment.:( The closest thing I have is this microphone on my computer, and my computer is in the basement, whereas my piano is upstairs.

I'm still in high school:eek:, so I'm looking at majors for college.
As you might guess, music is one of the majors I'm looking at, but I get mixed reactions from people I talk to. Some say "you've got what it takes, go for it", and others well...y'know. I practice about 2 hours a day now, but I realize that wouldn't work if I went into college with it. I'd have to triple that, at least. *Sigh* What to do!? I love music, it's my passion in life, it's why I wake up in the morning! Yet it's so hard to get a job in!;)
