I finally got my leadtek a400gt!!!!

And it's freaking broken!!!! I get all kinds of artifacts all over, even when it's booting, even on the bios page. Nothing I do can make any difference. I used independent power lead from my antec ps connected to the card. Checked the connection, reseated it, reseated the card. Used the other lead that was powering the hd, dvd. No difference. I brought my overclock back down to stock, still the same. Dang it! I've been stuck with a radeon 7000 since I sold my 9700pro on the 16th. Looks like I have to rma, unless I missed something. Any suggestions??

Edit:Just installed the card for the first time. And when I referred to bringing the oc back to stock it was the cpu I was talking about, not the video card.

Ouch. Check the drivers first, if updating them doesn't help you'll probably have to RMA.

Curious, where did you order from?

I uninstalled the ati drivers and used driver cleaner per instructions. Also had the newest drivers on nvidias website installed. I didn't want to mess with any betas yet. I ordered from gameve.com. On thier website it says exchange only and no advance exchange. I wonder if they have been having a lot of problems with them.

Have you read the reviews? A lot of people are claiming that they received the "lite" version, which is a real bummer.

But what hurts is that the item is currently out of stock, and doesn't ship until the 30th. Shoulda been warned earlier, but I try not to buy things that have the "This item is returnable for repair/replace only." message. Also I've heard a few people say they wouldn't order from GameVE, and now I'm glad I didn't. But as for you, first wait for other responses to see if there's anything else you can do. If not, try the exchange, be patient, and hope for the best. Good luck.

I knew about that 'lite' thing, but I figured they since were advertising the gt with gt speeds I was safe. Worst case I could exchange it for a real gt if was a lite version.

This is probably a dumb question, but did it artifact BEFORE you overclocked it?
Put on your flame suit.

That's not dumb at all, as from what he said, it artifacted after he brought down the OC...sounds like it was OCed as soon as he put it in 😕

I just reinstalled windows this morning and still get the same. Anyone else with any ideas? Looks like I'll need to rma.

Make sure the card is FIRMLY seated, and then tell me if the power connector it shares with the PSU is being connected to anything else. My guess is that your card has a poor thermal bridge, and it will most likely need to be RMA'd. Out of curiousity, did you have an ATI card before?

Yes, I did have an ati card. But I did use driver cleaner 3 in safe mode after I uninstalled those ati drivers. I reseated the card and the molex a few times just to make sure they were installed correctly. Also that molex I used was not shared with anything. The other molex ran the power/hd lights and drives. Just to make sure I did swap connectors to no avail. I've been googling and there are a few other leadtek 6800 problems like mine. Unfortunately the few threads I found weren't finished. I also tried to email the authors last night, hopefully I'll get a productive response. I also called leadtek this morning and left a message. There was a post @ hardocp where the guy had the same problems as me, but the card worked on another computer.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Artifacts on boot screen are not a good sign. Every video card I ever had that was broke would show corrupted DOS boot-up screen.

One question. Did you have a third party overclocking utility for your Radeon 7000? Because those are not removed when you uninstall Ati drivers. It will still try and over/under clock the current card in use. That could cause corruption.
