I FINALLY GOT MY CCNA! W0000000000000000000000t

After spending 3 days straight with roughly 6 or 7 hours of sleep total, i am now a l337
networking hax0r ^__^

Of course i did it in my usual fashion of cutting it close (score of 860 out of 1000, 849 being
the minimum passing grade) :) Which is pretty good for me considering i studied on my
own, and with the sh*tty Sybex CCNA book for several months until i got the Cisco Press
CCNA book two days ago (note: if you are studying for the CCNA, DO NOT GET THE CCNA
STUDY GUIDE BY SYBEX, IT SUCKS AND I HATE EVERYONE WHO RECOMMENDS THIS
BOOK).

Also, those bastards at cisco freaking changed the test version and format on us a
couple weeks ago without any pre-emptive notification, so expect to see some different
stuff on it if you are studying for the 640-507 test (the new test is 604-607). Heh, i know a
couple of people online who took the test a week ago and they failed miserably because
they didn't know about the new exam until they took it.

BTW, how many people here have their CCNA's/CCNP's/CCIE's/etc. ?

Isn't it the 607 now?
I had the sybex book and thought it was very good, are you not talking about the 800 page one or just some little study guide?

"Let's get to the point. How much has your earning potential increased?"

I'm a recently graduated college student who is unemployed so lets see... add my base pay to my expected pay raise... carry the two... ah, my earnings potential increased by 0, with a total expected salary of 0, yup ;)

Yup, it is... i made a typo. And yes, i'm talking about the big one. The sybex one is horrible. The Cisco Press one is overkill on some topics, but at least they do a thorough and comprehensive explanation of everything, with lots of examples (both of which the sybex book is lacking)

Supposedly, the questions are still the same (i wouldn't know, i never took the old one), but there are 2 router simulators where you have to configure and fix stuff (pretty basic tasks)... that's about all i can tell you without breaking the NDA, but those two simulators are pretty easy, to me anyway (in fact, i think they saved my from failing; if the test was all multiple choice questions, i'd probably fail it).

When you go for a job interview with the IT manager of Mega Corp. don't throw your cert in his/her face, you might scare him/her into thinking that their job will be in jeopardy with you around and they won't hire you.

<< did they ask you about ipsec? >>

I'd be lucky to get hired WITH my cert in this economy though...

sigh...
i completely hear what you're saying about the economy.

nowadays... it seems like having these certifications don't mean much.
there are so many quality workers unemployed,
it makes things difficult for those of us just starting out

ive passed the ccie r&s written exam already, and am scheduling the security written right now.

still debating whether to go for the labs...i want to focus more on software now, like programming or admin stuff.

the ccnp exams are changing in june i believe. i also think you should try to take your ccnp exams while you're still in the test-taking
mode :) the ccnp exams are much easier in my opinion after you realize what the exams are like...

good luck!

I can't understand why anyone would fail the 607 exam if they know the material. The only thing that is really different is the router simulation questions and if a person can't program the router then they probably shouldn't get their CCNA anyway. That was the whole point of Cisco changing the format.

All of the CCNP tests are about to change to the same format, the beta cycle for those exams ended last week.
