:D

Well I just got back from vacation and decided what the heck and bought the MSI Ti4200 128mb card from newegg.com !!! I am really excited to get rid of my Voodoo 5 (no laughing please) but I have a question. What is the best way to insure that all the voodoo drivers are out of my system before I install the new card? Or will it not matter since the Nvidia card will ignore anything related to 3dfx?

Thanks

laughing? hell, I just replaced my G400 for a Radeon 9700 :)

anyway, usualy the best way to remove old drivers is to reinstall windows, you could also go through the registry and delete keys that have Voodoo or 3dfx in them. That might kill your windows install so you are forced to go to the reinstall windows way

Do this and forget the reinstall. Not necessary.

Part1
1. open the add/remove programs section and remove any 3DFX items.
2. open dislpay properties and go to the settings tab/advanced button/ adapter tab/change display button/display a list/show allhardware/standard display types/Standard Display adapter (VGA)
3. hit next and and say YES to the warning that pops up
4. hit next-finish-apply-close and restart when prompted

Part2 - After rebooting with standard vga adapter (do not reinstall voodoo if new hardware wizard pops up-just cancel that)

1.open regedit by going: Start/run and type "regedit" in the open box (no drive letters)
2. in regedit, open the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software' folder and delete the '3DFX interactive' folder
3. then open the 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software' folder and if you see a '3DFX interactive' folder, delete this one as well
4. then click on EDIT from the menu bar at the top of the regestery editor and click on "Find"
5. now, type in '3DFX' and hit "Find Next"
6. when it stops searching the registery hit the Delete key and say yes when it asks if you are sure
7. hit F3 to do a find next (only delete what it stopped on the first time-NOT everything listed with it)delete what it stops searching on
8. it is imporntant that you keep repeating this pattern each time it stops (Delete, Yes, F3). Delete everything it stops on no matter what it is. However, do not delete anything but the first thing it stops on when it halts its search or you could delete to much(stressed again). Let the registery editor search for each item, don't go looking 'willy nilly".
9. when regedit says "Finished searching through the registery" close it down and repeat steps 4 thru 8 at least 4 more times (it takes it a couple of shots to find it all)
10. repeat steps 4 thru 9 for the words 'Glide' and 'Voodoo' as well.

OK. You've removed the registery crap, now on to the driver files.

Part3

1. click Start/Find/Files or folders
2. make sure 'all files or folders' is set under advanced
3. look in C:\ (or wherever your windows directory is) making sure the 'include subfolders' box is checked
4. in the named box type 3dfx*.* and hit find now
5. delete any files that pop up
6. repeat using glide*.* and Voodoo*.*

Shut Down-Unplug-Ground Yourself and pop in the new card-boot up and load your new drivers-PLAY GAMES!!!!!!!!

This has worked for me without fail on many PC's. If it doesn't solve your problem, only one thing will. C: /s

Good Luck

Haha, you won't believe this but after going back to newegg I noticed that the 4400 was just $10 more. I just changed my order and got it instead, muhahahah !!!!

I hope it ships soon.

When you receive it, could you let me/us know how loud the fan on the video card is? I've read (at THG) that this card has a loud fan, and I just wanted to get some feedback from others, as I am considering buying this card. Thanks.

:disgust:Well I am highly upset. My card arrived in my town at 11am this morning and I am guessing that the trucks had already been loaded for the day and were out on their runs but COME ON let me pick up my card the the office. It says on the online tracking page that it is not set to be delivered until Monday. It is in the back in one of the "cans" and the bad part is when I went by the office the guy said he would get it out for me....he comes back 10 minutes later and said he would have someone call me tomorrow and try and get it. Oh well, no impressions of my new card this weekend. *sigh*

Ok, I am in a rush to get back to gaming so this will be fast. Quick summary of many things I have found. Here goes:

Installation:super painless
Features of card: better than I imangined (coming from the Voodoo5 it is amazing)
Performance: UNREAL, I still have my athlon 700 and the difference is night and day on UT2K3 which really shocked me. I could buy the game right now and have very playable framerates and I thought I would never say that with my current rig.

Anyway, back to Battlefield 1942, which I can finally play on MY pc and not someone elses!!! I still have some questions about my card so I will post again later.

OH YEAH, almost fogot for Grifter, the fan is about thet same as any other card I have ever had. It is definitely not noisy as far as I can tell. I recommend you pick one up :D
