I can't believe I finally got around to doing this...
I took a look at my Comcast bill, and found that while I am paying $43/mo for internet (acceptable), I was paying $89/mo for TV (whoa!).

I had the "Digital Classic with Standard Cable" plan, which was:

- $58/mo for Basic+Standard+Expanded Cable
- $17/mo for Digital Classic package
- $9/mo for HD channels
- etc.

I went on Comcast's website and looked at the different cable packages, and noticed Digital Starter's attractice price. I copied the channel lineups for it and Digital Classic into Excel and compared them side by side (too much time, anyone?).

I noticed that nearly all the channels I'd lose were ones I never watched anyway, so no big loss. I called Comcast and explained that I wanted to switch my TV plan to digital starter, and when asked why I told them that I was paying $89/mo for TV and it was too much.

He understood, and set me up with Digital Starter, which for the next six months is $33/month. He says my total bill will now be around $89/mo, down from $139/mo. So over the next six months I will save $50/mo, then come the first week in June I'll need to see what promos are around.

I guess I'll miss a few of the channels, like the Encore ones which would have a decent movie on once in a while (maybe once a week), but that's really about it - the HD channels that I'll lose are ones I never watched anyway, same with nearly the rest of them.

I don't know why I didn't do this a long time ago (apathy?) but I sure am glad it's done.

I called a couple of months ago and said I wasn't happy with what I was paying but I didn't want to change what services I got. The guy I was talking to first offered me $5 off, then $10, and finally $15 which I took because he wouldn't give me $20. I was upfront and said that I was generally happy with their service so I didn't want to switch to satellite. I was happy with how it turned out, not that it saved me a ton of money but every little bit helps.

As soon as I build a HTPC, I am cutting Comcast way back and streaming Netflix.

You reduced your bill by reducing your digital service. If you had threatened to leave and they had reduced your bill with your current service then it would have been worth talking about.

we are all paying too much a month... $100/mo. (tv/phone/internet) for what is categorized as entertainment... 30 days in a month... $100, then taxes... too much in the grand scheme.

i have to agree with that notion....but we are all dumb enough to pay for it. I used to get TV and internet for $40/month through comcast, but I got sick of switching the account every 6 months......

Basic Cable TV + RR Lite: Channels 2-20 (Discovery was the best I got, at ch20) and 768kbs service.
$40/month. I wasn't watching much TV, and at least 25% of that is to pay for the "privilege" of receiving commercials; that 25% continues to increase year by year. And channels keep adding in stupid animated advertisements during the regular shows.

Fine, screw it.
I dropped the cable, and they gave me a promo offer: 7.0Mbps for 6 months at $30/month. At the end of that time, I either get ramped up to somewhere around $60-$70/month or I drop to their 1.5Mbps/sec service and stay at $30/month.

More internet speed minus useless cable TV = $10/month less.

In light of the service change, TWC kindly added me to their advertisers' calling list, so I had to get myself removed from that.

Stuff like that makes me feel like hiring Ted Kaczynski to send them a "complaint letter," but that might be a bit extreme.

You suck at reading comprehension. I saved money by dumping a metric fuckton of channels I have never, ever watched, and am not about to start.

Only reason I got cable (tv) and phone (landline through cable co) is because my wife insisted. Otherwise I'd be content with Internet @ $30/mo.

I called last winter and basically told them I was headed to dish/DSL or direct TV/DSL unless they could give me a better deal. Most I could get them to cut it was $30 and my service stayed the same.

I guess the phone call and the complaining was worth saving $360 a year......

Must be nice, Cox has it set up so that of the 30 channels I like, only about 10 are on each tier of service so either pay for all or you may as well not have tv, bastages.

Yup, that's the same package I have right now. However, there used to be a time when you can get just Digital Basic + HDTV, and get to watch all the HD channels. But 6 months ago, they changed their policy where now you need digital starter with all the expanded channels to watch all the HD channels. My 6 month promo is coming to an end soon, I think I'm just gonna downgrade to $18 basic cable instead of paying the $70 full price for Digital Starter + HDTV.

Lame is threatening to leave, rather than saying the bill is too high.
They will let you go if you don't play it right.

I'll probaly drop TV from Camcast all together and just keep internet. The price goes up but you get the basic tv channels.
I'll get my HD content from Neflix and DVDs.

I did the same. I had a great deal with them for HBO and all channels (no HD) plus internet for $50/month locked in for 12 months. Once that was over, my bill jumped to 149.99/month. I called and had them downgrade me to basic cable + internet. I still get all the channels I loved to watch before - HBO (no biggie really) and internet for about 63/month now. I should look and see if I can get a better deal with a promo.
