I finally did a Slipstream of SP2

I was having trouble doing this for a while, I was tring the command c:\sp2\i386\update\update.exe -s:c:\cd, that is what I read on some web site. I went to another site and found the right command c:\sp2\i386\update\update.exe /s:c:\cd, the one little front slash was causinf errors. Now I have a bootable Win2K cd with SP2 intergrated

Very slick indeed. I made one of these a while ago and its quite useful. I also did a reinstall with the slipstream just to have a very "clean" Win2k installation.

Did either of you do the trick to remove the product ID prompt? I haven't made mine yet and was woundering if this works.

I was going to try to remove the prompt, but I don't think it's worth burning a coaster, it takes like what 45sec to type in the numbers ?

FYI - here is a great site for information on creating a bootable slipstreamed Win2K Pro/Server/AS Disc:
http://www.bink.nu/Bootcd/default.htm

The trick to making it NOT ask for a ProductID is to make sure the volume name matches the one on his site along with the Setupp.ini 000 switch to 270 Trick.

Thanks tasslex, now all I need is for the final version of IE6 to be released, thn I'll be able to make my copy.

Well, you guys should be using CDRWs anyway. 😛 This will allow you to experiment a little, whether you are removing the Product ID or moving \Program Files to another partition away from \Winnt.

Made one few weeks back and I did take that annoying serial number off( it does work)

My question is if I burn a copy of this new slipstreamed w2k cd, will the copy be bootable still?
still have it in a cdrw and want to eternalize it on a cdr. (also did a clean install with slipstreamed cd just to see if it works)

Yes, I would recommend using CDRWIN to copy it, I have had problems making copies of Bootable CD's in Adaptec.

tasslex is right. Use CD-RWin to make a copy instead of Adaptec. For some reason Adaptec still sucks for a lot of people in Win2K.

what about nero 5.5

I have cdrwin but it is not compatible with my external usb 4x4x6 iomega writer.
will nero work for creating a cdr copy of my bootble cdrw?

Nope, the original Win2k I have didn't have a prompt for it either, so my slipstream doesn't as well.

If you've had no problems recording with nero so far then go for it. Some people have had major problems with both Adaptec Easy CD and Nero 5.5. I haven't had any probs with Nero myself though.

Nero hasn't worked for me, but I found out if I made an image in CDRWIN, then burned it using Nero, it worked perfectly. For some reason, Nero wouldn't make the CD boot correctly. It always caused it to give an NTLDR error when I tried booting it off of the burned CD. But if I made an image with CDRWIN, it burned flawlessly and worked.

My slipstream CD works great except for the prompt trick which I haven't got working. I have tried just about all possible combinations but this is the only that works for me:

[Pid]
ExtraData=6E797875766D79686E691614846D8A
Pid=51873000

Changing the Pid to read 51873270 doesn't work and using the entire file which is listed at the page, doesn't work either 🙁

It gives me errors about it not being able to find the correct Pid etc.

Yes, Once you have made the slipstreamed CD using CDRWIN, then you can use Nero to do a disk copy and it will still be bootable. Worked for my with SP1.

Hi

I've got SP2, and I'm looking into doing a clean install with it slipstreamed in. I'd like to create a bootable disk, so I've downloaded CDRWin, but as I have an IDE cd-rom and an IDE cdrw I also have to get the following to allow CDRWin to see my IDE drives:

WINNT40\SYSTEM\WINASPI.DLL

WINNT40\SYSTEM\WOWPOST.EXE

WINNT40\SYSTEM32\WNASPI32.DLL

WINNT40\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ASPI32.SYS

Golden Hawk Tec. suggest a link to: ftp://grc.com/aspi_me.exe in their help files, which contains all these files. Unfortunately this link seems to be dead! Did anyone else manage to get hold of the file aspi_me.exe, and if so, can you help me get it?????

I'm hoping to do a clean install soon as W2k is looking kinda shakey of late..........

Thanks in advance for any help

I got my slipstream about ready to burn.

Can anyone point me to a page that tells how to setup my promise drivers for A7V without doing the F6 at the begining. It would be nice to do that too. I have spent a fair amount of time at the knowledgebase looking for articles. I have found a couple good ones but none on this particular issue.

Thanks

/edit. I just found the answer in a very large word document I downloaded from Microsoft.
