When I first built my new system I was all set to get this Dell 22" monitor. I had a Dell 1905FP that I liked and I was excited to find another Dell so cheap.
And then I met xtknight...or at least I started to read his LCD thread. I learned about TN panels, PVA, IPS. A new world opened up, but with it came too many choices. I went to Fry's and looked at the 22" TN panels. I didn't like what I saw. Since I use the monitor for a lot of digital pictures and video I thought I needed an IPS panel. But where to find one? Fry's and Costco and Best Buy have lots of cheap house brands, lots of TNs and few or no high end products.
I went back and forth, back and forth. Spend the big bucks for NEC or Planar? Buy two HP LP2065s? Doublesight? I really couldn't decide and I had no chance to look at these products before I bought, something I really didn't want to do.
Then two weeks ago I walked by a friend's desk at work and saw his new monitor, a Dell 2408WFP. I sat down and played around, I liked what I saw. And Dell had $100 off and free shipping (as of today they still have the $100 off). I bought one.
I've had it for a few days now and have no buyer's remorse. It is a great product at a not cheap price but I feel I got value for what I paid. The colors are a little too saturated, I have to get a good calibration solution.
Luckily my company buys Dell and I was able to sit down and use the monitor before I bought. You may not have that chance but if you're looking for a wide panel to do pictures and video I think you will be happy with this monitor. As for gaming or movies, I can't say since I haven't used it in those applications.
