Grill some chicken, its almost impossible to screw chicken up. Marinate it first and get some good grilling sauce.

I assume you bought a gas grille. Which I have no experience on, I like old fashioned charcoal.

But anyways here is a list of stuff that tastes great grilled.
Chicken (wings, breasts, legs)
Steak
Hamburgers
Ribs
hot dogs
fish

Corn on the cob, leave the husk on it, and grill it like that.

Onions - again leave the outer layer on, and just rotate the things then when the outside is nice and burnt looking pull it off and peel the outer layer off. It makes the onion sweet.

probably quite a few other things but that is pretty much what I cook. Again though I use charcoal.

Aluminum foil works well, you can wrap your chicken in that, and slow cook it for a few hours, and keep the barbeque sauce or whatever you marinate inside with the chicken, and really let the flavor seap in.

Works good for ribs too, to cook them in foil, with the sauce.

When grilling corn in the husks, it is best to let it soak in water for at least an hour before grilling.

Ribeye. Salt, pepper, chili powder liberally, sear on both sides, pull to the side to finish with lid on if you want it more well done.

Anything that will stick or fall through the grating (chicken, salmon, peppers & onions, etc), use Reynolds Nonstick Release foil grilling sheets. About two bucks for six.

Chicken pieces or halves: brown the top a bit, then pull to the side away from direct heat with the top side up and cook with the lid down until done. Season as you want.

Charcoal is the best. Gas will steam your food since a byproduct of the process is water, but just work with what you have. I have both types of grills and use them for different foods/reasons.
