First of all I start playing the game in march, and then put it off near the beginning of april because of my classes. I finally started it up again four days ago (it took me a LOOONG time to remember what had happened...when someone mentions a random name, unless you have been consistently playing it can be confusing) and beat it today.

1) PLOT HOLES. Some things just go unanswered!!!

2) LAME story line in parts

Parts of the game was AWESOME. I loved the whole influence system(i dont remember that being in KOTOR1 and it it was then I'm stupid because I had no idea. I never talked to anyone in KOTOR1[though in hindsight i probably missed like 90% of the story and character development] because I told myself I would play as an evil person and evil people never talk about their feelings. One of these days i'm going to go back and play light side because it feels more enjoyable to me) and I spent my time trying to gain Visas's influence because I thought she was cool. The influence always kept me on my toes, depending on who I wanted to please. Though mainly I just answered honestly as I would.

But then when the whole story builds on me getting ready to face Visa's master (I got her to master light side! Go good people!) and in the end...i just board a ship and walk up and bash him. Thats it! No buildup to it, no intense events...hell even his "slaves" just stand there after i kill him and keep doing their work. The guy dies without a problem. No repurcussions, no major dealio or anything...just dissapears. I loaded this game up alteat 100 times and watched the character of this guy sit there looking at me menacingly, and in the end he got a total of like five minutes of fame, including death.

And then randomly Darth Sion turns out to be on Kreia's side...and the game doesn't introduce it slowly or make it seem like a big deal~ its just "poof hi! I'm her apprentice!" Same thing with the whole Atreis aspect of the game. And then WTF Mira appearing out of nowhere at the very end!?!? GEEEZ make some sense!

That and some places like Nar Shadaa and Telos took me HOURS to do. However, I completed Dantooine and Korriban (korriban was even worse) combined in like 1/4th the time of just Telos. I was hoping for for in depth stuff....It left me feeling a little empty compared to KOTOR1. Then again i played KOTOR1 over a year ago so I really don't remember too much of that story.

Graphically the game was awsome. I played it on my ti4200, and when i played kotor1 i had an mx420 but for some reason i recall that kotor1 looked prettier. I may investigate that and try it again to see if i'm right at all or not ;) I guess it makes sense though b/c kotor2 was like a dead galaxy with everything barely survivng. but i remember going on dantoinne(sp?) and the water world in kotor1 on my mx420 and just pausing and going "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW" because of how pretty the scenerey was. But that doesn't matter, the gfx weren't ugly in either so i'm happy.

Oh yeah, back to plot holes...What ever happened to the whole HK assasination droids!!! I spent 1/2 the game getting chased by these bastards, and then randomly out of nowhere they dissapear and never mention a word again.

Add to the fact that you never find out how in the world you randomly appear on the ebon hawk, etc. Who did Revan (whom the game made it seem like stuck to the light side and left the galaxy in search of true sith empire so he could crush them) leave all his stuff behind with? Obviousl the R3 model tried to hide all that info, but some stuff was random without making sense. Anyone remember the cut scene where HK-47 notices that he can't access the travellogs and the T3 comes in behind him and zaps him unconcious? After that i immedaitely went and talked to both and although HK-47 would speculate on why he couldn't access them I could never address either about the incident that occured.

Also what happened to bastilla? In the end randomly they talk about her, and you think it is for a reason but all it really looks to be is just a throwback to kotor1 so they can pretend to be cool.

What about the entire army that revan/malak amasses...we never really learn where it came from/what happened to it (we learned partially in kotor1 i think but not to any defintive detail).

I could keep going on, but I'm wondering is WHY so many plot holes and things that don't make that much sense! For example in the beginning meeting with the jedi masters and the hollograph it seems they really did something to the character, but in reality they did NOTHING and just cast him away. When I speak to the Jedi In Nar Shaddah , the jedi tells me that the council stripped me of the force....and then by the time i'm on dantoinne the guy completely denies it! (I went Telos, Nar Shadah, Onderon, Dantoine, Korriban)

What about at the end of the game where Go-to prevents/attacks the smaller drone to prevent him from blowing up malachor. WHY did it blow up anyways if goto was going to prevent that. See all these inconsisties i'm talking about?

Also what ever happend to my force connection with Krea! Once I hit malachor, I never heard of it and neither Kreia or me ever asked about it.

Really...it feels like there should have been another MANDATORY 3-4 hours of events/dialogue just to finish up the MAIN story line...and possibly another 3 additional hours to finish all the other stuff they mentioned but never elaborated

I can also think of a LOT more stuff to question and wonder...

But did i just not speak with enough people? Was that my fault? I will admit I tried to focus on a few people, and in the end I think i got through to Visas and Carth(errr Atton. Either way he reminded me a LOT of Carth) and possibly Kreia. I acted like an ass to Kreia whenever she told me to diss on/sacrifice Visas because I wanted her to live(and ANOTHER thing...the entire game builds up like I have to kill Visas. In the end I personally didn't and am glad, but the story made it seem like it HAD to happen. Not saying it should of though because I'm glad she stayed alive ;) ). I also got Handmaiden to be a jedi, which means I did a lot of talking to her, but then i backed off because I notced she was hitting on me, since I was going for Visas.

So i never got to learn much about a lot of other characters even though I tried. I probably learned the least about Mira. I talked to her a few times, and stopped quickly because a lot of the options descneded into hitting on her. Though amusing enough, she hinted about me having "relations" with the Handmaiden and I told her I would rather stab myself with a light saber.

Is there a KOTOR story line (like that one Halflife 2 one) that explains things more? That is really the whole gist of this post. And if there isn't, is there a thread where a lot of disccussion occurs?

The main reason I played isn't cause the actual game was fun, but rather i was addicted to the story like crazy. I actually started to cheat 1/2 way after i couldn't beat a boss and then kept cheating after that (though I cheated also in KOTOR1 but even when i cheated the last few worlds still took a long time)

Oh and one more thing:

ITS FREAKING BUGGY. Luckily I beat the game unpatched. I was THINKING about applying the patch, but when I found out the game was largely working for me when all of you guys were screaming bloody murder, I decided not to update any drivers or change anything that might break it.

Either way, the game would ALWAYS crash in swoop races if I didn't win (i would lose, and it would load up and then crash). So I never really played swoop races (Though I think i did have to play it once to continue the story).
A few times some weird pazaak stuff happened, but those were in my favor so i didn't complain.
Camera angles were ALWAYS messed up. In ALL of malachor when Kreia was suppsoed to talk it would look at her back instead of her face....that got annoying fast because I wanted a good look at "evil krea" but instead I kept getting back shots. Stuff like this happened a LOT. I'm just recalling the last few things I did.
Also when I was on Onderon, Kreia just kept randomly talking for no reason (even though she is never in my party. I usually go ME/Visas/Handmaiden. If I have to have a character like Mandalore then I drop Handmaiden and keep Visas) as I was walking around. Sometimes I would select one option and then the event would never trigger and I would have to load up the game again to get it to work (happened a lot in the beginning)

Luckily though I didn't experience anything like crazy crashes that you guys were talking about. It crashed on me about 5 times, and froze once when I was in Korriban. And luckily i had saved about 20 seconds before the freeze so I missed nothing.

Overall I felt a little underwhelemed. a Lot of things were awsome for sure and I loved how they were tied in (like Mandalore turning out to be the mandalorian from KOTOR1 that followed you...no wonder i would never take off his darn armor! But story wise i feel empty...maybe its because i didn't talk to enough people? (though some people like bao-dur never really ever wanted to talk to me)

Btw.. The ending is horrible. I played light side and Kreia falls and thats it. Malachor gets destroyed (see above at my problems with that) and then it goes to credits

Anyone else's thoughts/potential link to a place that'll go on for pages about all the story?

EDIT:

I made grammatical changes. I went to gamefaqs.com hoping they had some intellegent discussion, but instead I found people who typed in sentences that lasted a paragraph long, and did not use any grammar. After letting my eyes bleed for a while I gave up and came here and decided to fix mine up a bit

BTW, one 13 year old(or so his grammar makes it appear that way) sums up my feelings in their own way:

If there's anything I hate, it's the fact that the ending shifts into 5th gear without attempting to go into gears 1,2,3, and 4. So pretty much it's a bumpy ride that just isn't really satisfying.

After the Jedi Masters are murdered, you expect some kind of leadin that makes sense other than OMFG DARTH NIHILUS WILL EAT THE PLANET!!111 AND THAT STUPID TOSSER ATRIS LEIK WANTS TO KILL KREIASS!! LOLOLLOL

I guess I feel the same way about KOTOR2 as you do. There was a lot left unexplained. And I've played both light and dark (mastered both) and I wasn't able to convert anyone to a Jedi/Sith. I did make Atton as evil and ugly me, though. He kept telling me that I looked really bad, I guess he wasn't looking much in the mirror at the time. Heh, when I played Sith even Kreia admonished me for being too evil. It was totally awesome. I barely used my lightsaber, I used lightning, scream, and death a lot. Oh and force persuade of course. It is so fun to play the bad guy.

I felt it was a let down as well. I've gone back to KOTOR1 and I'm playing that through again.

the game itself was awesome. story was really lacking, though. I liked the new features obsidian brought to the table (like the influence system. it was NOT there in KotOR 1, except with bastilla, and even then, not that much), the firmness and completeness of plot that bioware had in KotOR made it much more enjoyable. EVERYTHING fit together. I just hope bioware gets KotOR 3 (if there's going to be one), and that they take all that obsidian did right, and combine THAT with sheer excellence of KotOR 1's story. Gameplay-wise, KotOR 2 is superior easilly, but in terms of story and plot and character DEVELOPMENT, KotOR takes the cake hands down.

Now, I enjoyed both games, but KotOR is the game that gets the most replay out of me simply b/c the story is so enjoyable even after you know it inside and out.

Wow guys 3 replies out of 61 views? The heck is this place, ATOT? ;)

Yeah megatomic the way I converted people is I always had them selected and then in dialogue talking with others I always chose LSP. Ultimately it really doesn't do anything, other than make you feel good that you got someone to the light or dark side.

As for story, I genuinely beleive that had KOTOR2 spent the extra 4 hours on making the game end RIGHT, then it would have been a better overall game than KOTOR1 for the main reason OF character development due to the influence system. The influence system really kept you thinking. In kotor1 I never gave a r@ts arse at all. The other issue is SOCIAL interactions are much more realistic. The who "love" thing in the second felt more real due to the fact it was always somethng that existed under the story fabric and very subtle...that and in lines in KOTOR1 like "Hey biatch, come knock boots with me" really doesn't set the bar high for improving dialogue in relationships. Also, Both KOTOR1 and KOTOR2 did an excellent job at making me feel the game and think upon my actions.

I think in KOTOR why things fit together, is because the ending was given more care. I hate both endings to be honest(wayyy to plain to for me) and have never been into the Star Wars style ending, but atlesat KOTOR1 wrapped up 99% of things. They left a few things open which I don't remember ever addressing, but that maybe due to the fact that I played DS and never really let people talk: if two factions were fueding with one another I would try to kill them both if I could.

Oh and ONE more thing: why is DS so popular? Only reason I played KOTOR1 on DS was my friends told me too, and I practically hated the decisions I was forced to make. Now that I think about it I may go tyhrough KOTOR1 lightside just becaause I can't stand acting like an evil bastard. I think its funny how when a story is spun, I tend to try to play right...whereas in games where a story isn't "deep" like Grand Theft Auto, I have no problem tossing Cocktail Moltovs on grandmas crossing the street.

Obsidian did an awsome job on the game. That is obvious enough, and I would buy another product produced by them. My main issue of contention is why is 85% of it soooo good(influence system, the mini relationships that are subtle and don't drag out KOTOR1 drag queen style), and the last 15% absolutely shoddy with more plot holes than a story written by George Lucas? There is a reason, and I keep thinking maybe it was a rush to the holiday season since it came out winter 2004....perhaps had the game scheduled to be released May or June of this year instead we would have really gotten what should have come out (both story and technical glithces...doing a quick search there are like atlesat fifty "cheats" that are all taking advantage of massive glitches in the game)
