I fell for one of those "job offer" scams where they say they are from the UK, and I gave them some of my information. I gave them my address, name, age, bank name, drivers license number, and marital status(i dont think that really matters) but I've heard that people face jail time for these kinds of scams even if theyre not gulity, so if any fake checks come my way, I'll rip them up but do I have anything Big to worry about?

Well I'm in California. What's the worst thing they could do? How much information do they need to do anything to my identity? I also have 24 Hour identity theft protection. goshdangit. Anyone know of any stories about what usually happens? I haven't done ANYTHING with this fraudulent company...

um, you are worried about giving someone your DL?

edit: about the worst they could do is make fakes and sell them, so when people get into trouble, you have to pay.

i'd just go to your DMV and get your number changed and tell them what happened.

heres an honest response

you should get your drivers license number changed, go to the DMV and explain the situation.
do the same at your bank (get acct # changed.. if they won't do that, then close your acct and open a new acct)
and also tell the police

Call up your bank ASAP and explain what happened. If you can, transfer all funds out to another account before you get hit so that you can pay bills. Call the DMV or whoever does driver's licenses and explain the situation to them. Watch your mail closely for bills and notices.

DL number doesnt really matter that much... I would switch banks though, just to be safe... I imagine the scammers would call up your bank and try to access your money with the information you have given them, switching banks completely is the safest bet...

Well then, I'm going to switch banks and change my Driver's License number tomorrow. I used to bank at Bank of America. Any suggestions for other banks?

exit aol and turn the pc off and leave the room. the next time you "you've got mail" you'd be better off ignoring it.

did you actually give the bank accnt number? or just the name of the bank... if it's just the name of the bank you really dont have anything to worry about

I use Wells Fargo for my checking account and Emigrant Direct for my savings. I won't say anything about Wells Fargo, but if you don't have one you gotta get a savings account with Emigrant Direct; 5.05% APY; I have like $775 in mine and got $2.60 in interest last month alone. Not too long ago I set up an automatic transfer of $25/week into it from my checking acct and I've already saved up $300 that way, and I don't even have to think about it anymore.
