I was taking my XM Radio off of my sisters account as I no longer really use it. I have heard that the XM CSRs try really hard to make you keep your subscription (put you on hold, offer 3 months free, do this and that..etc..).
So when he asked why I wanted to cancel, I told him Justin (me) was dead.
There was a silence and then he said okay and took it off and that was it. less than 1 minute.

I feel bad though. Death is not funny. Especially mine. Am I an ass for doing that?

No but you're definitely a goner now. Karma's a bitch.

Maybe if I call back and tell them I am not dead that will null and void out all repercussions of the situation?

Nothing wrong with telling the csr whatever is needed to make the conversation short and efficient, but why not just say "take me off the account, no I don't want to keep it and please don't go through the process of offering enticements to keep my account active, I no longer want it. Thanks".

That's actually a cool idea. I'll use that sometime. They'll give me the pushy sales pitch and I'll start crying and saying how I'm dead.

"He's dead." is so much easier to say.

My wife's done that when telemarketers call for me. "Oh, no, Mr. SearchMaster passed away 2 days ago."

The only reason I was able to do it is because the account was not in my name. I was just added through the family plan. So I was pretending to be my sisters husband. Oddly enough they did not ask any questions. Like SSN or anything.

The only thing bad about this is that companies make you resort to things like this to avoid wasting time saying no 25 different times.

If I were the csr I would have said "So, now that your dead, I'd like you to hear all about how xm radio can be heard, even from 6 feet under !"

And even funnier when you add ", Jim." and say it like Dr. McCoy!

I think he put me as deceased on their account though. I hope that doesn't freak anyone out or cause a problem.

That's funny but at the same time I always manage to jinx stuff like that. Hence why I've never used the excuse, "My _____ (insert relative here) died so I can't _____ (insert task here)."
