My faith in humanity was recently restored on Facebook. On a local garage sale page, well, a significant number of the posts are, (trying to figure out how to phrase this), welfare crap. E.g., a 15" CRT computer monitor for $25. Someone posted a parody on the site - very well done picture, "For sale. I've only owned this Bic lighter for 2 weeks and used it approximately thirty times to light a cigarette. $20, (location). "

The replies to the post were comedy gold - it went right over the heads of a lot of people. After about 30 negative responses in the thread (none of which lacked errors), I posted, "In case you haven't figured it out, the person who posted this is creating a parody of all the over-priced junk people keep posting on here. (OP), nice try. But, your attempt to imitate the other posters would have been much better if you misspelled at least 3 words in the first sentence, didn't capitalize any words, and threw all concerns for punctuation and grammar to the wind." Faith restored: like like like like like like like like like like...

Doing something like that always depresses me though. When I know the general political leanings of the place I'm posting in and then they confirm what I knew it doesn't feel good at all, even if they are approving of something I said. It's like they really are just the stereotypical [insert party here] that everyone seems to want to deny they are. It kind of proves to me that none of them are really thinking about what they're "liking" beyond whether it fits their party line.

Here I at least feel like I could post something inane and partisan like "Republicans believe every day is 4th of July, but Democrats believe every day is April 15." * and get a rather equal distribution of agreement and disagreement with a lot of points to digest on each side of the argument. That's how you learn stuff.
