For a psychology class I'm taking, they require us to participate in a few workshops, surveys, or writing assignments for credit in the class. I took an online survey on body image and sexual activity, to which I was perfectly prepared to answer "I am hideous, I am hideous, I am hideous, I am a virgin, I am a virgin, I am a virgin". At first this seemed to be correct, but immediately I realized a physique bias, questions becoming increasingly geared towards pinching fat and dieting, a particularly humorous one being (paraphrased) "Have you ever laid down on a floor to see if you could feel your skeleton on the floor?" (do fat people really do that?!). What about "Have you ever run your fingers between your ribs to see if they disappear from sight?" Worse yet, when they got more explicit with regards to satisfaction with ones sexual life, the questions went from "Do you feel inadequate due to a perceived weight problem?" to "Do you have difficulty keeping your vagina lubricated during sexual intercourse?" Yeah, because ED isn't just as significant a problem if not more. After I finished the survey I immediately returned to the descriptive page, and not ONCE do they mention that the questionnaire was intended for obese females. Admittedly this won't prevent me from getting into college and becoming a doctor just like mama wanted me to, but this is only a couple small steps away from racially biased SATs. Majority privilege my ass.
