I feel like a moron, but having trouble installing SETI-Q as a service

Start > Run
Then type "C:\program files\setiqueue\setiqueue.exe -i" (deafult install directory) and click ok 🙂

What's the benefit of installing seti as a service?

<-- Windows newb.

SETI Q is a caching program that monitors production of machines running SETI crunching program. Running it as a service will allow caching and accessing of SETI Q via internet without having anyone login into the machine. Usually the machine just needs to be powered on. Limited Users will not be able to stop SETI Q if it is run as service by an administrator.

SETI client is the actual program that crunches the data. You can also install the client as service and point it to your SETI Q. Running only the SETI client will allow crunching of the data one at a time. Since there is no caching done by the SETI client itself, if connection to the server or to your own SETI Q is not available, then crunching will stop when the client has completed the current workunit. Likewise, when the SETI client is run as a service, the computer can stay at the login screen and still crunches the data.

I must say that was a concise, clearly stated explanation by IsOs. 🙂

Aloha! 😀

thats what I thought too, but when I did that, it told me that was an invalid path.

Have you installed SETIQ? If you have, then use the path that was used to install it, or go to the command line, CD to the directory where SETIQ is installed (make sure it's not running), then run the SETIQUEUE - I command.

If not, just install it normally, shut it down, then run the SETIQUEUE - I command.

ALSO, be aware of this note:

Before starting SetiQueue as service be sure to run the application interactively once and set the port # for the SetiQueue Queue Server, and the HTTP administration password.

I believe that instead of "C:\program files\setiqueue\setiqueue.exe -i" you will need to use "C:\progra~1\setiqu~1\setiqueue.exe -i". Not sure though since I always just navigate to the directory first and then run the command.
