I feel like a horrible son

So last week was my birthday and my parents sent me a card, inside they said "Rather than mail your present, since your coming home next weekend we'll give it to you then. Don't get too excited, it's not a Big Screen TV or anything..."

I'm 28 years old now so a present isn't exactly a regular thing anymore, I usually just get cards which is more than fine with me. Sounded cool though, so I was looking forward to what they got as they used to like to get me things that go with the hobbies I'm currently involved with.

So I come home yesterday and today my dad asks me over breakfast 'Did your mother give you your present yet?'. 'I don't think so' I reply. He says 'Ok' then drops the topic.

Later today my mom comes home from work and the two of them are just farting around the house. I figured they might have forgot or something so I ask my dad, 'Should I ask mom about the present'?

He goes to talk to her, comes back in with a funny look, then asks me if cash is ok. "Huh?" I tried my best to talk him out of it but he insisted.

I feel like such a douche of a son, I didn't expect a present, but they kept mentioning it so I figured I would just ask since I assumed they forgot. 🙁

Not horrible, just not used to the little white lie your mom told you in the card. She forgot a present, forgot she had mentioned a present. Next time you'll have more patience.

Did they actually write it that way? If so, facepalm.

I'm siding with the OP. You would've been happy with a card, which is normal at this age, but when someone says they're going to do something for you regardless of what kind of relationship it is.. you're going to be disappointed when they don't follow through.

You should have stood up, gone into the room where your Mom was, and screamed at her that she's retarded. Btw, how's the food drawer situation in your house?
