Yes you are missing out

LOTR is a series of 3 novels published in 1954 and 1955 (actually it's one big story seperated into the 3 books). Now movie adaptations are coming out. It was voted book of the century. My fav book of all time, and now my fav movies of all time :D

Go watch the movie...better yet, read the books.

Losers in Off Topic Rarely get laid.

(It's an acronym that makes them feel a little better about themselves.)

You don't get out much, do you?

Actually I do, i've just never heard of LOTR till I saw it on here. I've heard of Harry Potter, does that count?

;)

you can't be serious. You are kidding right? I mean how do you not hear about LOTR the movie? It was huge...if you heard of Harry Potter you heard of LOTR. But nice joke. At least you confused some people.

And BillGates, you aren't the one to talk with your 3 hundred and some odd posts

Read any Fantasy books? Tolkien basically started the genre with Lord of the Rings.

It's about a fictional world where you have humans, elves and dwarves, but also older, angel/devil like creatures. The most powerful of those who still walks around (his boss is locked up, read the Silmarillion for that) is Sauron. Once he helped with the forging of great rings of power while in disguise (3 for the elvenlords, 7 for the dwarvenkings, and 9 for human kings), but afterwards created a master ring to control all others. That ring is 'The One Ring', which the good guys seek to destroy in Lord of the Rings. He poured a lot of his power into the ring, and while the ring still exists his spirit (and with that himself) cannot be destroyed. He was beaten before, but the ring survived and he returned. Should he gain possession of the ring again he would have a lot more power again too, and so he hunts for it. Watch the first movie, gives a faster explanation :)

*scratches head* So you haven't seen all the commercials, internet ads, newspaper reviews, newsmagazines, and everything else about LOTR since the movie came out? Where have you been? Let me know I'd like to go there too :)

In my youth I was a Sci-fi/fantacy book reading machine.

Many a day was spent in Libraries and Book stores (especially used book stores) looking for stuff to satisfy my craving.

LOTR, the book, was indeed excellent--the movie is OK but like all books to movies, omit oh so much:

Judge a book by the book, not by its movie.

So many digital distractions nowadays pressures ones available reading time.

Lets see...play hot new video game for mega hours on end and derive pleasure and "cool" socialization fodder or read...hmmm...maybe that Ghostbuster dude was right: "Print is DEAD!"

As a side note, I find it humerous that many young-uns after watching some "new" car commercials on TV have no idea that the song/music they just heard is CLASSIC and not new or just written by whatever advertising department.

Now that you know what LOTR stands for don't forget these similar acronyms:
LOTD - Starring Michael Flatley
LOTF - Starring Ron Jeremy
AND
LOTO - Starring Bill Gates

:)
