I just moved into my dorm Saturday, and classes started today. Classes aren't bad, I don't think, I will be fine there.

However, I was placed into the biggest party dorm on campus. Last night the neighbors came in at 2 am and woke me up, the night before it was 4 am. Drunk off their butt. All these people wanna do is get drunk and smoke weed and screw girls, the morals up here are like...nowhere to be found.

I'm not trying to be a goody-goody or anything, I'm just saying, my Dad was an alcoholic and I've seen the bad sad of all of this and I really hate being up here and being the only one who isn't partying.

The only other place to go meet people of morals would be FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) but I'm not the most religious person in the world, either. :(

Edit: but, I do have a fellow Anandtech'r up here to hang out with. :p

Looks like you need to go see if you can get your dorm room assignment switched.

You can have fun without drinking. It's funny as hell to watch drunk people and interact with them...VERY VERY amusing. Also you don't have to get totally SMASHED...a few drinks will give you a buzz and totally loosen you up. Have some fun man...before you know it you're in the real world and fun isn't so easy to come by.

I am contemplating on getting an apartment with 3 other people... but we will see what happens.

And even if I don't drink and hang out with those people, I worry about being guilty by association, and losing my scholarships.

If you're not cool with drinking... just don't do it. It will take you a week or two to adjust, but in the mean time... go out and meet some hot college girls.

In my experience, it's pretty hard to get in serious trouble in college. Everything is just a warning. Schools want your money, they don't want you to drop out.

It must be hard, considering your dad. :(

You might consider getting your room changed. Perhaps try to meet some like-minded people (sometimes they can be hard to find, but they do exist).

College is a wealth of experiences and memories. Try to take the bad with the good, and try not to let the bad overshadow the good.

You poor poor bastard.

I nearly failed my first year becasue I couldn't get any sleep.

Don't get me wrong. I don't drink...but seeing as my roomate went to sleep at 3am and my drunk neighbors went to sleep aroung 5 EVERYNIGHT,

I developed a sort of insomniatic cult-following watching the drunks joust with poster cylinders on rollerblades every evening..

I must admit it was entertaining, but alas, my textbooks never got the attention they deserved.

Keep in mind I am majoring in f-ing Electrical f-ing Enginineering whcih is the one of if not the most f-ing hard f-ing Enginneering study.

SOrry about that.....At the time I got a great laugh from the periodic dunk operas on Tuesdays but I am ready to settle down...

All this...and I have never Experienced reefer or even TASTED beer...

BE WARNED....college might be so entertaining you'll fail

Luckily I always lived close enough to college where I didn't have to live on campus. Dorm life is not something I'd think I'd enjoy.

I kind of feel for you and I kind of don't... only cause you mentioned morals .. otherwise I would fully feel for you. These kids aren't lacking in morals, they're just having fun. I feel for you though cause my ex girlfriend who was younger than me got a dorm room that sounds just like your's in her first year. I used to go spend the night or weekend there sometimes in her crampy little room and one night I almost got into a fight with these guys who her friend braught around to the door at like 4 am and they started banging on her door .. I jumped out of bed, threw on a pair of pants, opened the door and told them to fvck off .. there were like six guys there holding a video camera and her dumb slut drunken friend ..

needless to say .. she ended up joining the dark side and I lost her to clubs, knee high boots and extacy. Sucks to be me. Anyways, you should smoke pot and drink cause it won't kill you, you won't get addicted (cause you seem like a level headed guy) and then you'll know what all the fuss is about .. and who knows? Maybe you'll like it and maybe you'll decide that in your free time, it might be fun to get innebriated ... I'm not a party animal by any means, but I like to smoke and I like to drink when the occasion calls for it.

Of course. That's where all the rich kiddies go. No wonder they party like nuts...most of them are probably there on their parents' tab.
How do you figure that Clemson is full of rich kids? That may be the case, but it's still one of the top public academic schools in the country. Top 40, at least.

I knew somebody who went there.

US News ranks Clemson's business school #71 and its engineering school #63, public and private combined.

Oh. Well, I can assure you I'm not a rich kid. My parents help pay for school, but I'm certainly not here on my parents' money. Granted, that's just one out of like 16,000 students. I mentioned that I thought we were in the top 40 in public schools, because I know we're not if both public and private are included. Either way, ranks in the 60s and 70s are still good.
