regardless, what does "POST'ing" mean?

I read this under my processor specs on this this:

"NOTE: In order for Motherboard to POST with this CPU, the lastest BIOS NEEDS to be installed."

What kind of problems will that cuase me?

Will the mobo even work with this processor?
 
What it most likely means is without the latest bios, your board will not 'Post' with the xxx cpu. If it is making it to post then you have a compatible bios.
 
Yeah, but did you *try* it? That looks like just a general disclaimer, not something specific to your motherboard. And you COULD check with the motherboard manufacturer -- who might actually know whether it will work...
 
Maybe I missed something, but have you flashed your BIOS to the latest revision as "it" told you to? If not, why? If so, then I don't have a solution for your problem.
 
You should have no issues at all using that motherboard and CPU together, and it is highely unlikely that you will need to flash your BIOS to get it to post.
 
I assume you are planning to build a computer with this motherboard, or else you would have flashed the BIOS now with your current processor? What would most likely happen is that it would detect your processor as a lower-clocked part, for example seeing an Athlon64 3500+ as a 3000+ or someting like that. Note that this is a guess, so don't base your decision on what to do on what I say.
 
Yeah, I have not bought it yet.

Nor have I ever built a PC... I just wasn't sure what that meant, but as long as it should work then it's fine.
 
It looks like it will be fine. The place to check is on Asus's website, see what they say about compatability. I doubt they'd release a board that won't work with the CPUs it was designed for 🙂

However, in the unlikely event that it does need a BIOS upgrade, then you'll need to find a CPU that it is compatible with natively, flash the BIOS, and then drop your 3000+ in.

I think you'll be fine 🙂

The way it's written, sounds to me as if you must start out with a LESSER powered cpu, flash the BIOS while using that, and only after that will it be able to work with the actual cpu that you have in mind. If it's an accurate description of what you are facing, I would see about choosing a different motherboard if at all possible.

I don't understand why it wouldn't post just cause its a 90nm CPU. I could see it not knowing what it was until you have the latest BIOS, I mean if mobile CPU's work in most systems wouldn't something like this work.
 
That is a generic disclaimer for those buying the processor to drop in an older 939 mobo. That combo will work just fine.

POST = Power-On Self-Test

BIOS = Basic Input/Output System
