I feel helpless.......

Because I am. My father, step mother and sister just moved to Tampa in July after my father was able to get a job at one of the Air Force Bases there - he's in the reserves but works for the military as a civilian. The military is paying for this transition there, paying for his apartment, etc. Currently, they're having a hard time finding a decent house - the house they were going to buy was in the process of being built, but Hurricane charley/frances has delayed that for months, so it's no longer an option. Of the three houses they've looked at, all had water damage. Now they haven't had power for 3 days, and my fathers cell phone will not last through the night (I've been rationing my calls to him), and he basically broke down for the first time that I've ever seen when I just called him.

They're all stressed to the breaking point - and I'd really like to be there right now, but can't. The most I can do is try to keep up daily with phone calls because I just took a new job and can't really ask for time off. It's just frustrating to see people you lovego through such hardship, and not be able to do anything but sit at the sideline - helpless. :brokenheart: 🙁

at the risk of sounding like a complete jerk, what exactly is the problem? if the military is paying for his apartment, why is there so much stress about finding a house? it's not like they're out on the street right?

Have you ever bought a house? Let alone one in an area that just got ravaged by two hurricanes?
