i feel dumb! dvd question

I have a movie and i have no dvd burner, so my friend says i can just use my regular cd rw and burn a dvd format movie and it will play on the home dvd player? Wtf?

I think you can burn VCD movies onto a CDR, but that's it.......Make sure your DVD player supports VCD

It's possible to go DVD --> SVCD and play the SVCD on a dvd player if it supports it.

I wouldn't think it'd fit on one CD. It would work if you split it.

yeah, but you will need at least 2 CD's.....I believe (could be wrong here) you first have to rip the DVD to your HD, then encode the .vob's to SVCD format, then burn to CD-R.
Edit: you also need a DVD-ROM
