I feel comfortable in the OSI & TCP/IP model

heyy guys

i feel comfortable in the OSI Model & TCP/IP area now, am able to memorise the diagrams & their functions. Just need to keep on practising :\

Describe layer 3. What is an IP protocol number and when is it used?

Are there protocols that have nothing but layers1-3?
Are there protocols that are only really layer1 and 2, name the most common (and important) one.

Layer 3 is for routing & Configuring data

Answer the question padwon!

HINT - think VPN or encapsulation/tunneling, think routing protocols.

L3 also tells what protocol is above it in the OSI model.

it's used in the application layer,, the ip protocol number is not the same and the number is stored in header to an IP packet.

it's also used in the layer 2 tunneling protocol (L2TP)

Describe common TCP/IP protocols for these Internet services, and their OSI equivalents in terms of layers:

- VoIP
- E-mail
- Web

If you are doing Cisco certs, keep in mind almost all of them deal in layers 1-4 and that's that. 🙂 You will be asked to probably answers some OSI questions (more than likely a drag and drop to build the stack) and you won't see those types of questions again.

my exam will be written question and answer type, not multiple choice /anything.
