Brand new windows 7 boot w/ totally cleaned hard drive.

ahhhhhhh

pretty painless install except for the fact my USB keyboard NEVER works when I want it to during bootup and the PS/2 keyboard is always stashed away in the furthest reaches of my garage

It would be nice if Intel or ASUS' drivers for my P5Q Pro actually installed on my Windows 7 x64 system. When I used the Windows 7 x64 Drivers from the download page of the P5Q Pro on Asus' website, says my system does not meet minimum requirements:(

Manual install works via device manager, but still rather odd...

Anyway, enjoy the OS! Did you get in on one of the deals from AT Hot Deals or did you go for MSDNAA?

Interesting, I have a P5Q and am thinking about getting 7 at some point (currently on Vista Home SP3.) Do you have any more info regarding this?

Why would you start an OT thread about this? Many of us have run clean W7 installs more than a dozen times. This is neither off topic of interesting. Do us a favor and murder your computer.

The driver install package on Intel's download site (for the series 4 chipset) and ASUS' website (for the P5Q Pro) both fail. You can still get them by right clicking on individual drivers and clicking update drivers... pointing it to the zipped ini files / drivers from a seperate download on the same page as the automatic installer on Intel's website. It is a pain, as you have to do this individually for over a dozen components, but it does work.

I contacted ASUS and they told me to update my bios and to try it with only one stick of ram to see if it will proceed with the installation of the drivers. I told them in the email that I already had the latest bios installed and I doubt removing all but 1 stick will cause the installer package to mysteriously start working.

I have been having issues with Windows 7 refusing to shutdown, but I do not know if it is related to my manual install of the drivers.

You can attempt to extract the automated install package from an older version and then copy / paste the ini / cab files from the newer install package over the old ones to see if it will work. I have not tried it. Hopefully Intel will correct this, as I imagine they omitted our specific chipset from the latest driver update's installer.

Wow, thanks for the info. I guess I will be putting off my 7 upgrade for a little while then :)

Edit: And by that I mean clean install, I've heard some horror stories about Vista -> 7 upgrades and would rather not take the chance.

got the 29.99 student deal since I have the .edu email extension :D

pretty sweet deal

Indeed, BTW, if you are in college and you are a science major, checkout MSDNAA. Loads of free Microsoft software (well, it comes out of your tuition since your school buys into it). I received my Windows 7 Professional Edition x64 license / ISO image for free through it.
