I feel bad...

I was going to buy myself a digital camera (Canon S410) for my trip to India. I already have my memory card and everything.

Last night my mom comes out and shows me the camera that she got with her Air Miles. It was an Olympus D-395. It's nice as a simple point-and-shoot camera. It uses the xD memory card, so I'd have to pay a bunch more money to buy an extra card.

I feel bad because I know that the only reason she got it was to let me use on my trip and I'm sure she feels like it was a waste now.

Huh? You feel bad that your mom bought you a camera?

She didn't get it for me. She got it for herself, but only got it so she could let me take it on the trip. I told her I wasn't taking it on the trip cause I was buying another one.

She knows I'm really anal about getting the right electronice (read: What I pick out). I'm sad cause I know my mom is just trying to be nice.

Being nice would be respecting your wishes. I'm not getting on your case; far from it. I'm the same way about electronics and my mother is the same way about "being thoughtful & nice". She always used to pull sh*t like this as well to try to bolster her own image. It's really a selfish thing, subconsciously.

cry about it, oh wait....

She'll get over it, one day you're kids will do the same to you. At least she's a good parent, that's definately more important than any camera issue.

Why don't you do something nice for her in return... like dinner and a movie... etc
Some mom and son quality time...

Don't forget say "stick out your hand" on the ride home.

If you're not paying the rent or anything, then she can get you whatever gift she wants. If you don't like it, move out!

That was a truly generous thing that your mom has done.

I am sure that there are things that she could have found to spend her miles on for herself, yet she got something for you. While not one of the huge sacrifices that moms make for their kids, this is definately thoughtful and generous.

I hope you said "thank you" and gave your mom a hug!

🙂

You're
sad because you subconsciously realize that you are quickly becoming independent, and the mother/child relationship will never be the same again. Mother's kindness with the camera merely symbolizes that she is no longer your provider/protector. I would venture that she is also sad (in a good way) to see her little boy become a man.
