Surely, I will go to hell for this sin.

She got

this

I told her to get the extended warranty, and apparently Circuit City now offers a version that covers accidental damage as well.

$389 was the warranty that covers everything, including dropping it down the stairs. $89 more than the standard four year.

This was after the incompetent salesman diparaged the brand. It certainly wasn't their elite sales abilities that led to this.

Does anyone have any experience with these new Circuit City warranties?

Will I burn in hell for this?

yea...i would not get the warranty seeing how the laptop is 800 dollars...why the F would you pay 50% of what you paid for your laptop to get a warranty that you might not even use.

heh i always encourage Dell extended warranties, (last one was $120 to upgrade from a 1 year to a 3 year warranty on a dimension) but never retail store warranties.

I am confident she will use the warranty, especially since it covers accidental.

The only issue is how much runaround will she get when she tries to use it.

Here's the letter I got from our insurance agent:
  • We can add the laptop to your current homeowner policy and it would not be subject to deductible and would include coverage for fire, lightning, theft or for example-accidental(you spill a can of pop onto the computer). It does not cover for mechanical breakdown. The approximate cost for the year would be $40.00.
I added that to the 3 year, $239.00 "AppleCare Protection Plan for PowerBook".

I believe she can return that warranty within a certain time period.

Sounds like a good idea, never thought about going through my own insurance company. My wife and I have insurance on her wedding ring as a rider on our policy. I should look into insurance for all my electronics.

edit: for clarification

Are you serious? The warranty is 50% of the cost of the laptop. In a year, the laptop will be worth less than the warranty..

Next year, she can accidentally drop it drop the stairs and try to get a replacement? But, then you'll both burn in hell. Along with BB's and CC's PSP pusher.

I wouldn't get it. It is way too expensive! If it were a third of the cost I might consider it then.

Extended warranties on high priced items is a good thing. For $30, I got a four year warranty on my Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's several years ago. Total price was $330 and I got a complete new set (Ultra 5.1's since the 5.1's were no longer being manufactured) when the amp in my sub died. :)

I'm impressed about how it would not be subject to a deductible. I wonder how common this is.
