i emailed them saying the BMW X5 had more HP 347 to 345hp and this was their reply

<< Thank you for your e-mail to the Cadillac Internet Response Center. Thank you,
too, for your
comment about the Escalade advertising touting it to be the most powerful SUV on
the planet. By
BMW's own admission, their X5 is not an SUV but an SAV or Sports Activity
Vehicle. Their own
Website states that it is the first SAV. This puts the X5 in a different class
than the Escalade.

We would also point out that the Escalade is constructed in a body-on-frame
style; the X5 is of
uni-body construction. Again, these vehicles are in a different class. Because
of this, Cadillac
stands by their claims regarding the Escalade.

We hope that this information is helpful. Thanks again for sharing your
comments with us at
Cadillac.

How are they idiots?

BMW is always spot on with their advertisements? Better yet, why in hell does it matter?

Anyone who can afford to purchase either of those vehicles should purchase a Kia Sportage and give me the difference between the cost of the cars.

cause cadi is lying on their commercial about the escalade being the most powerful SUV in the world when the X5 is
but you dont see BMW boasting the X5 as the most powerful SUV in the world!!

Depends, who has more torque? 'Cuz that's what really matters in an SUV anyhow.

Well obviously they are not lying. It my be somewhat misguideing. But truth be told, you are comparing apples to oranges. I don't think you can even compare my car (a '01 Xterra) to the Escalade. Not the same class, though it may still be a SUV.

maybe you should read your first post. BMW doesn't boast the X5 as the most powerful SUV in the world because they say its an SAV. Its just like the Dodge Dakota, its in a different class than a Chevy S-10 or Ford Ranger.

The only idiot here appears to be you!

the correct answer is - get a real car instead of an suv and you'll blow by these. Might I suggest a nice 2002 Nissan Maxima?

I agree with Cadillac.

However, I would rather take an X5 with the 347HP....
Actually for the same money, I would rather take 2 cars:

Audi A6 2.7T ('01) and an Avalanche ('02)

Edit: Damn, an 4.6 X5 costs 67K.... thats crazy

I don't think that BMW wanted to really get into the SUV race, so they created the SAV. It also helps with insurance. SUV's are still really expensive as far as insurance goes. BMW's are expensive enough as it is, so if you add a BMW being an SUV... that'd be some serious $$$.

Don't know what the official definition of an SAV is though. Probably along the lines of "Looks and feels like an SUV, but too damn expensive to even think about taking it off road!"

I would rather just get an Audi S3 or something, and spend the rest on something useful. Like upgrading my comp ;).

According to bmw's website on the X5 4.6is, the best one I see, it "only" has 340hp with torque at 350@3700rpm while the caddy had 380@4000.

Big enough for me, and I'm 193cm tall! I mean, mostly I would be there alone. My gf would be with me sometimes. S3 can easily have 2 passengers. And if I had more passengers, and they complained that there's no space... Well, tough luck, there's more than enough space behind the wheel and THAT'S what I care about :)!

Most the sub-compacts have enough space for even a tall guy like me. I really don't have a need for big car (altrough I wouldn't buy a sub-compact. Well, maybe VW Polo).
