Hi all,

I have an AMD Athlon 1 gig and a MSI Mainboard (K7T266Pro).

I tested the setup and everything worked fine. I did unlock the CPU but it ran fine after that. Didn't even bother to do much over clocking due to the fact that I was just setting everything up.
I put it in the case and had it running fine for 4 days. I started to set everything up... but stopped the Software Installs just installed AO and didn't have much time beyond that.
Well.. the next time (Again... after everything ran in that box for 4 days) I come home from work and it won't do anything when I hit the Power Button. And that is the situation as of right now.
After some quick trouble shooting I took it out of the case again. Just plugged in a Matrox G400, some Memory and used the jumper to reset the Bios. With the result of... NOTHING. It won't try to turn on... just sit there and act like it has no Power.

Here is what I did so far:
  • Made sure I had the right Jumper for the Power switch ;)
  • Changed the Memory
  • Changed the Power supply
  • Jumper reset the power (even took the Bat. out one time to make sure)
  • Ran with, and without HD and Floppy

Anything I am missing?

Problem is I have a house full of Intel, but this was my switch to AMD. So I have no second CPU, or Motherboard to test.

Let me have it... PLEASE!

"With the result of... NOTHING. It won't try to turn on... just sit there and act like it has no Power."

Like, you press the power switch and NOTHING comes on? Not even the PS fan? If that doesn't come on then something is not hooked up right or your MB is fried. :(

What you also might want to try doing is a variation on the power supply theme; try unplugging the power supply from the wall. Disconnect the cord. Sometimes, if there's a power surge, the circuit breaker in your power supply will set. To reset it, all you have to do is remove it from the wall (ground), and disconnect it. Then put everything back together. This happened to me once.

Thanks guys... but the Powersupply is not it. I already followed that lead and tried two different PSU's.
No movement of any Fans what so ever. I think something gave out... now is it the CPU or is it the MB? Does the MB come up with a warning beep if there is no CPU... I wonder?

The fans will spin with a KT7 series board and no CPU. I don't know if this works with yours. I keep a $29 Duron around for testing incase I have no spare Birds. Might be a good time to snag a Duron.

You can find standard Award Beep Codes here. Perhaps your manual has MSI's custom version of the beep codes. It's not on their Web Site. Looking at the generic codes, your motherboard is suspect.

Acctually the Board has 4 diods LEDs on the MB itself.
I just found the right refenrece and it will display with a faulty CPU and fauly Memory and give a code via the 4 little LEDS.

So my guess is I have a bad MB. I'll pack it up and bring it to the store tomorrow... but first I take of the CPU and see what happens if I run it without anything... just for the fun of it.

Thanks for brainstorming with me! If anything else comes to mind let me know!

You may have already tried this but I had somethig similar happen and it was the bridges on the CPU I used defrost repair to connect the bridges and one of them had come unconnected.

And we seem to have a winner!!!

gil11542 before I even saw your post I did as I said in my last post. I took the CPU out and turned the MB on without it. Bingo... the Motherboard comes on and displays the CPU warning.

Next I look at the CPU and above the core is a little discoloration... mhh I figured I fried my first Athlon, since it is not the MB. However... I started to clean the CPU to have my friend at the store look at it before I called it quits. Clean as I am I took all my hard work off all together and made it look normal again.

Figured it coldn't hurt to stick it in one more time and see what happens... imagine my surprice when it turned on. So it looks like the same thing happend to me. One of my connection with the deforger repair kit must have come lose and that's what did it.

THANKS GUYS! Just talking with you here helped a lot! :) I have a working Athlon again and feel a lot smarter! :)
