I recently found a posting to a newsgroup that had a link to download IE 6. i downloaded it and tried to run the setup program. after i configured the custom option for what i wanted to install , the setup program prompted me for a password and user name? what is that all about? does anybody know what new features are in IE 6 and is it worth the upgrade? anyhow since i dont really even need the setup program because i got all the file s how do i install them without the IE 6 setup exe? thanks for the help

as far as I know it's not public yet so you probably have to be part of the in crowd 😉
actually you might ned to be an official tester. Just guessing though.
Mozilla is better though

It is a special IE edition for MSN . . . actually called MSNE6. It is smaller in size than its big brother, 5.5, it is obtained through MSN, so you have to diddle with them about Hotmail, etc.. to get it. It has Media Player 7 integrated into it, and does a better job of releasing resources than IE 5.5. It is actually a scaled down 5.5, and not quite as capable.

I tried it . . . it killed my Yamaha XG50 MIDI sound drivers . . . so I chucked it and went back to what works in my system. 🙂

Just pointing out that IE6 and MSN Explorer are not the same thing. IE6 is going to be integrated into Windows XP (Whistler), and while most likely untrue, it may be only avaiable with XP. MSN Explorer is a madeover (for the worst) version of IE that needs the user to be a Hotmail or Microsoft Passport subscriber, and can be downloaded from here.
