I have pics from waaaaay back in 1998. But the funny thing about them is now that I want to look at them they're under the file extenstion "File". I cannont view them under any app including Photoshop 7.0.
I can however view them if I manually select open with Windows Picture and Fax viewer. But it will not open up under the windos prviewer manually.

Thanks for any help.

Update, I managed to convert it to a different format, but it says it contains other information that would be lost, I would like to know what this other information is. Any ideas?

I can send the original pics to anybody that wants it.

It's most likely just something that was neededto be viewed as a .file.
I never even knew that there was a .file though.

Well, you can change the file extension, but I guess you'd need to know what the actual file type is. It's obviously some type of valid image file if you can see them in picture viewer. You can send them to me and I'll take a look if you want. I'll PM you my email.

The one you sent me seems to be a jpeg. Try renaming it to .jpg instead of .file and see if photoshop will open it now.
I found this website that will analyze files and tell you the type.
It says:
JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.00, resolution (DPI), 96 x 96

Are you sure it's got a .file extension? I know that pictures used to be saved without an extension at all... and some programs I believe still do (on a Mac in particular). If you look at it in the file browser, and the type says "file" then it probably just doesnt have an extension assigned to it.
