Only the people selling Lysol say that toilets are germ laden, and that is just hype to sell their stuff.

Toilet seats are cleaner than door knobs, grocery shopping carts, cell phones or keyboards.

Toilets are pure porcelain, and are generally quite sanitary. 99% of sinks have some kind of metallic doodad that permits growth either in, or around it (contact points with other porcelain). This is even assuming the sink is made of porcelain. It's undoubtedly cleaner.

For the record, most people keep their toothbrush in the same room they shit in, which means it gets covered in poo particles every time you hit the head.

On that note - I once met the man who invented the "Muffin Monster" - which is basically an industrial garbage disposal designed to grind up feminine hygiene products at a sewage treatment facility. Talk about a successful guy. When I met him he and his wife were touring the world on their yacht, which was also called the "Muffin Monster."

Uh, that's because people clean toilet seats far, far, far more often than all of those other things. The most effective strategy of being antiseptic is regular cleaning--disturbing the surface so that bacteria can't gain purchase and colonize. You don't even need "lysol" regularly, as long as you just scrub the surface.

Let's perform a test: Clean your toilet seat and your phone. Do a swab test. Then, for the next two weeks, don't clean either. Make sure to splatter piss and shit around your seat as you normally would, handle your phone as you normally would (by the way, please don't piss and shit on your phone--that would ruin this test :D), and then do another swab test.
