I downloaded the 645mb iso now what do I di with this file I burned it to a disk but my cdrom,s won't recognize the disk. Now what?

Mandrake 8.2 was just released. I'm downloading the ISOs right now.

What documents are you reading to help you along the way? Most newbies would be clueless if they don't read some basic instructions before trying out Linux for the first time.

Was the image good? It's possible you didn't completly download the image file, but your CDR software let you burn it anyway. The CD should be readable in the drive, even in windows.

I plan on finding lots of documentation on it. I think its my burner yamaha 4x4x16 or my media cheap disks from fry,s . Ive had trouble with reading other disks that i;ve burned. but it shows no problems in the device manager (win2000} useing nero nero wouldent open the .iso extention dident even see it when I tried to load the file? P.S the cdrom just keeps blinking
thanx for your help

Nero doesn't open the ISO image... off-hand I don't remember the exact steps to use Nero to burn an ISO image. Just to be clear, you don't add the .ISO file to a new "compilation".

If the CDR can't even be read after burning, then it's almost certainly a coaster. You can try again, and report what you find. In the future, I'd suggest against buying no-name Fry's media.

You should consult some documentation to get you started on the install procedure if you're a newbie. Search/browse through the Operating Systems forum to see some suggestions. I can't think of any off-hand, but I assume Mandrake's web site has user manuals.

First thing you should do is check the md5sum to see if they match. That way you know if the contents are correct. You can download md5sum here.

I was browsing one of the Mandrake mirror sites and found this: readme file. It tells you how to burn it with Nero and other applications.

PM me if you still need help.

Those Fry's "GQ" CD-Rs AND CD-RWs are awful! GQ is on my personal blacklist along with anything made by BTC!

To use an .iso file with Nero, I think you can just start Nero, close the "new compilation" window, and then drag the .iso file into the empty gray space in the Nero window.

To burn an ISO in Nero, open the first dropdown menu, then click on Burn Image. Find your ISO in the drop down menu, then burn.
