well, I got it up now. I'm just usin' my http connection on my LAN. I figure it's good enough for me, as I've not got anything but me and the wife on it 😀

My newest problem:

It will not allow me to login to it (the DC - as I set it). 🙁 bleh. Windows says "Welcome to the domain" but after I reboot, I can't login to it w/ the account that I created and password that I set. I just don't understand Y now. Any ideas?
 
Don't know about the DC issue, I just use a workgroup.

However, you can access the admin interface via https and SSL. It's a simple check-mark option in the e-smith admin page.
 
well, I got all the https and SSH stuff werkin' But, this DC issue is wierd...I'm going to try it out w/ my wife's lappy, and see if it's just maybe an XP issue or something...but, I really doubt it 😀
 
is it a 2K DC? What does
net use
show?

Have you deleted the client computer from the DC and tried again?

In you "Docs and Settings" do you have a new folder for your domain profile?

<user name>.<domain name>

I like to know if its a 2K controller or a pre 2K controller. There's a few changes for policies so there are some changes you need to make to the DC for the respective DC for pre 2K clients or Post 2K clients (ie 2k and XP)

It's an e-Smith DC. I'll ck. the dox an setnz when I get home again. I'll also ck. the netuse.

I'll definatley delete and recreate it...GREAT tip...don't know WHY I didn't alreadydo that! 😉

Hehhehe.. knowing what kind of DC makes a big difference.

Here is what you need to do for XP:

XP requires a registery edit to enable it to join a Samba domain HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters "RequireSignOrSeal"=dword:00000000 Also ensure you are running Samba 2.2.1 or higher.

pardon me, but did I just run into some sort of GENIUS??? How the HECK did you know THAT?!? 😀

well, I'll try that when I get back home...but for now...the contractors behind our apt cut the fiber...no more internet @ home for a while.... ahh well 😀 Maybe I'll still be able to lgin to the domain, THAT would RULE! 😀 heheheh

Could phptriad - mysql, phpmyadmin and apache be loaded on this or are they already part of the e-smith DL. I couldn't tell.

Also, could one run this with reliable speed using a DSL line? or would it crawl as a webserver under those circumstances
 
so, has anyone else got this thing installed yet? I have it all installed...but my highbandwidth is totally out of service right now... 🙁
