When I'm stuck doing monotonous crap, day after day, week after week... I think about how our ancestors had to eek out a living. Any one of them would have given their left nut to swap places. Hell, you don't even have to look back in time. Just look across the globe today! There's relatively few people who live as comfortably for so little effort.

There's a good risk that if you're good in the field that you'll get a good job in it and then will come quickly to hate that job, but will be reluctant to leave it because you need the income and because "it's a good job and [you] should be happy". This can lead to some rather serious early burnout issues and throw your life into one hell of a blender.

Don't ask me how I know.

I don't dislike Computer Science, I still find it very interesting and all, just it's become more of a hobby lately, not something I want to spend every waking hour focusing on.

I felt exactly the same way after 8 years as a graphic designer. So I left. Now I'm doing Property Management, but I may be leaving this field soon to open a construction related business with a partner, but it's still under discussion. But I say, go for it. I am much happier now that I left corporate america. Text

Having done the farming thing and tossed around my share of hay bales, I have to say that I enjoyed that _much_ more than working in an office. Even when it was pouring rain or 95 degrees with 98% humidity.

Would that really make that much of a difference? I was planning on buying one this summer just so it would be easier to go back and forth to college, but I didn't know they could reduce eyestrain. The times I've used LCDs, I've actually felt worse than when using a CRT. They just seem harsher somehow.

Or become a plumber or sheet metal man.

They make big bucks and don't have the worries,

Most states have an alternative certification program to teach.

Teach a computer class to a bunch of high school kids, or teach math - you have more math already than most middle school math teachers.

I was in the same boat as you I guess. My 3rd year of college doing a B.S. in CS was a critical point, but nows the time to make important decisions. Me, I choose to stick with it and go to graduate school while studying for various certs (studying butt off in lab for CCIE at present). Just because you have a CS degree doesn't mean you will be at a desk forever. There are plenty of jobs out there where you can have mobility and even work overseas if you wish (general dynamics being one that im familiar with) without staring at a screen for 8+ hours a day.
As for the headaches and blurry vision, well I think most of us have that at one time or another. And your logic issues...the only thing I can say to that is logic is something that just doesn't come easy (for most people) and needs to be developed. So just stick with it and it will improve.
My rule of thumb is stick with what you enjoy, and persue it to no end. Don't be discouraged and stay focused on what you want out of a particular career. I am sure you are no fool, so do some soul searching and decide what really makes you happy and go for it full bore (as long as its profitable lol).
Good luck!

Get out of here. A few years back I was an assistant in a electronics store. I did everything from sales, scheduling UPS pickups, keeping track of inventory and moving stock. I moved 32"+ TVs, fridges and air conditioners during the summer and it totally sucked. I would rather be a little bored than beat and drenched in sweat any day. If work is boring then do something enjoyable afterwards. Just be glad you dont have to do manual labor. On the other hand if I had to just sit in a cubicle 8 hours a day I think I will probably go insane too. :p
