Maybe if we hired a lot more and didn't make them work long hours?

Most current THC testing can detect marijuana usage for days to months prior to the actual test.

Treat THC like alcohol and test for recent usage that would actually cause impairment.

The problem as described in the article is that truck drivers are abstaining from driving, so I'm not sure how abstinence is supposed to solve the problem of less truck drivers.

Change the testing method so that a driver that isn't high on marijuana won't be treated like they are high on marijuana might encourage more truck drivers to come back to truck driving.

Bottom line is that in less then an hour after smoking most people are certainly no longer high and in several hours (worst case a nights sleep) virtually all effects have worn off.

You will however potentially fail a drug test for weed weeks later.

The other factor that makes DUI for weed so tough is that folks who smoke all the time and have blood/THC levels through the roof 24/7 will very often show few if any signs of intoxication.

Meanwhile light smokers can be rendered completely dysfunctional from relatively tiny amounts like one or two bong-hits.

Finally, the 800lb gorilla is acknowledged. UA testing only shows you used marijuana in the last month, not that you are actually high.
