I don't understand why the psychic business is legal... it's a major scam...

I've seen dozens of psychic businesses all over the city, and they all offer fortune-telling, palm reading, tarot card reading, etc... and people pay for that...

Is that even legal? If it is, why are they allowed? What's stopping anyone from opening a psychic business just to take advantage of gullible people?

The TV ads usually say in small print "for entertainment purposes only."

Why shouldn't they be allowed? They provide a service, customers pay for it. Even if it's a crappy service, it's still a service (entertainment).

Bush era C.I.A hired psychics to locate Osama Bin Ladin. How dare you call it a major scam.

People have a choice on how they spend their money. I find it a waste of money to spend $300 on a close seat a sports game but some people consider that entertainment.

Because it's not the government's job to force idiots to save their money.

(Obligatory non-funny "that's why they allow religion" comment before anyone else says it.)

If I offer you something for money and you agree to pay for it, it is not a scam. It is legal because you can't prove the psychic is wrong or right.

No one's won a lawsuit to stop them, it's been attempted. They have a pretty good lobby of their own.

Besides, they see the lawsuits in advance and have years to prepare for them.

I don't think it's ever meant to be funny!

Seriously though, religions and psychics should not be compared. While they both give predictions as to the future, only one demands you live in a certain way, and psychics don't charge nearly as much as religions do, and are at least up front about the entertainment factor.

Oops, sorry.

During the term of a certain elected official, a certain government agency hired psychics to locate a certain person of interest. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
