He firebombed London for 5 years and the US didn't give a flying fuck, in fact you had your Ford company there as an excuse to export steel to Nazi Germany's war effort and were returned with the favour of slave labour for your car manufacturing plants in Germany.

But them Japan bombed you and Germany declared war on you and you had no choice but to stop them, way late and while others had endured and fought them you came late to the party, twiddled around and called it your win.

A big reason the US did not help in terms of military was out of the fear that you guys were going to lose. All signs were that you would fall after the fall of France. Western Europe appeared to offer little resistance against Germany. WWI was already very expensive and you guys were still greatly in debt by the time WWII happened. We did not want to get dragged into another European war because you ass-hats could not get along.

Also, Hitler at the time was saying he only wanted Europe. When it became clear he wanted more, and so did Japan, we increased support. When Japan attacked us, we had already been getting ready for war.

And good thing we helped you, because your sorry ass had no hope of stopping Germany without us. You had a drunk of a leader and an industry that could never produce enough to stop Germany. Yes, its true that there were some few that supported Germany, but that ended pretty quickly once we entered the war.

Lest you forget, Europe is not controlled by the US. It was your dumb asses that let Hitler rise to power, and your leadership that stood by as he built his military. It was your leadership that tried to bleed the people dry which lead to the conditions of Hitler rising to power. It was twice that the US had to clean up your mess of a situation. We are by no means perfect, but do not confuse history. Oh, and what are you doing to stop Russia again? Takes over Georgia, takes over Chimera, shoots down a passenger plane... and yet nothing. He said Canada and your interests, and your response is about land invasion. Is that to imply that the only threat to Canada and your interests is land invasion? Surely you know that the US keeps the shipping lanes open which is very expensive. You must know about the policing of the infrastructure that is vital for Canada's economy. It would be strange to only talk about land invasion of Canada if you did know those things though.

The Battle of Britain was basically over by the time the US got involved
Over 10% of Canada pop was in the fight
At the end of the war, Canada had one of the worlds largest air and navy forces

1. If you are talking military power, yes. Why? Because Americans are scared shitless, and having the biggest stick makes them feel more secure.

2. Trillions of dollars covered in blood and sand beg to differ. The private sector that sells the goods necessary for those endeavors profits, sure. But that money is coming directly from the taxpayer, and the federal government will continue to raise its debt ceiling in the name of "freedom."

3. This is true. Our government would much rather spend money engaging in useless, unprofitable wars on the other side of the planet.

4. Again, the private sector profits here. And again, the federal government goes further in debt as the taxpayer continues to pay for countless non-violent crimes.

5. More people voted for Hillary than Trump. Sure, there are a ton of idiots here that deny it, but there are also a ton of rational people who are terrified of it.

6. This accusation probably could use some empirical data. Pandemics come to mind. Maybe a few other things as well.

Sure, but I find it troubling that you do not know this already. If you do already know this, then why ask.

Canada currently spends less than 1% of its GDP on defense. The reason for this as explained by Chrystia Freeland is that there was an assumption of protection from the US in terms of Canada and Canada's interests.

"International relationships that had seemed immutable for 70 years are being called into question, to shrug off the burden of world leadership."

"The dictatorship in North Korea, crimes against humanity in Syria, the monstrous extremists of Daesh, and Russian military adventurism and expansionism also all pose clear strategic threats to the liberal democratic world, including Canada,"

As for the shipping lanes, the US has the largest Navy ever deployed globally to protect shipping lanes. Many times the US navy has engaged pirates that are attacking ships. So yeah.
