I don't understand this Ferrari long term review. *BIAS*

So I was reading this review on Edmunds.com. They were doing a long term review on the Ferrari 550 M. Even thought the car is crap (this one, not all of them), they still don't say anything bad about it. They just seem to going along with the problems. First the dealer lied to them about it being a 2002. It was a 2001. Then, the VERY first day, the car breaks down. It goes back to the dealership and takes a loooon time to fix. Then, more trouble. They were showing off their car to some friends, and it again breaks down. More time spent at the dealer. The car breaks down numerous times, has many build quality defects, but the editors don't seem to complain. If this was Honda or Chevy, they would have ripped that car a new one. And don't say that "Oh well, people who can afford such a car, don't care about reliability", because even if you are that rich, I am sure you don't want a car which spends more time getting fixed (because of quality problems, not your extravagant lifestyle) than on the road.

You mean you don't? But all my dad's friends and their kids have one. Oh I see, you are one of those people who toil at my dad's factory and office the whole day and think making 60K a year is awesome. </Sarcasm>

If you make that much, you often don't care much about reliability. You just care about how fast it is when it's not broken.

If I had that kind of money, I would drive my Lambo while the Ferrari is in the shop😎

who cares... it's a ferrari... 😀 if you wanted to drive forever... that's what civics are for... that thing could buy more than 10 civics... 🙂

its not about your abiility to piss away money, its about quality control and engineering. apparently you don't get what your paying for😛

:werd: That is what I think too. But no one else likes to think this way.

ok ferraris only have 1 year warranty from manufacturer... after that anything can happen

why do they even have to care??? people keep buying their cars anyway... try getting a new ferrari for msrp (you can if you want to wait 2-3 years)

no, what you're getting is a car that goes really fast most of the time, and has to be carted around on a flat bed at other times. people understand this when they buy it. they know what they're getting into, giving lie to your statement.

ferrari is very harsh on dealers that even try to sell for more than MSRP.

people have long spent lots of money on passionate cars that needs lots of work. there's an old saying:

you need to buy three jaguars. one to drive, one for the shop, and one for parts.

but people bought them anyway.

"This is where our 550's Tubi Style exhaust can be a plus. This is where our 550's Tubi Style exhaust can be a plus. The system is so loud ? especially at lower rpm ? that it would often drown out any sound: music, voice and squeaks."

You don't understand! When Ford or Toyota has quality-problems, they are simply "quality-problems". But when Ferrari has quality-problems, they just "add character to the car" 😛.

I recently watched a documentary about a "Alfa Romeo Enthusiasts Club" in Finland. It was funny when the chied-fanboy said "Alfa Romeos are not your typical cars. They have character. They can have good days, and they can have bad days. They can give you problems" and he made it sound like a good thing. If I had been the interviewer, I would have asked "so, what you are saying is that Alfa Romeos have substandard quality and reliability?".

maybe it should be sold packaged with its own flat bed then. they hide this little fact though, its an embarassement. maybe i have higher expectations.

I agree with the build quality. If I pay 100,00+ for a car, it better reak of overengineering and build quality out the wazoo. Hell, it better wash ITSELF.
Why? Because, if I want pure speed I'll buy a bike. For that much i would EXPECT a cut above the rest.
