I don't understand the HDCP thing

I can't watch HD-DVDs because my 2405FPW is not HDCP compliant, but I could easily pirate the movies. Doesn't that mean that the only purpose of HDCP is to be a pain in the a$$??

You are 110% correct.

I run into something similar with DVD-Audio.

I cannot get any software to play back the multichannel MLP tracks in any software on my computer.

I have to circumvent the encryption and rip the tracks to a different format just to play it back on my computer.

power dvd 5 lets me watch dvd files on the hard drive.
what software do u use for playing high def 1080p contents from the hdd?

Download AnyDVD. It'll let you watch HD-DVDs on your monitor.

Seriously? AnyDVD + XBox360 HDDVD drive = HDDVD movies on Craigslist-steal-old-monitor?

Yeah. In fact you don't need AnyDVD if you use analog dsub instead of DVI. You only need an HDCP video card.

The movie studios have pretty much shot themselves in the foot in terms of high-definition movie content. The average consumer has to jump through way too many hoops just to view this content, and it's buggy to boot. And as always someone has found a way to crack it, rendering their efforts useless.

When will they learn? The majority of buyers are not going to sit and download a 30-50GB high definition movie. Hell almost nobody is willing to do that. The cost of HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs is so expensive it isn't even worth it to straight copy the discs either. I just don't understand their logic sometimes. It's a shame that the high-definition revolution is in the hands of idiots.

If you want to get rid of HDCP for ever, just get a HDCP stripper !

The thing is that your HDMI source have TRANSMITTER IC
and your display (normally HDMI) have RECEIVER IC

If your display don't have RECEIVER IC, you can use HDCP stripper to simulate a display and you get the picture quality like if you have HDMI display

That's basically the purpose of all DRM.
