I don't understand - NY Anthrax related

The woman, who was not identified beyond her affiliation with "Nightly News" anchored by Tom Brokaw, received an envelope September 25 containing a white powder that tested negative for anthrax. She later tested positive -- the results just became known Friday -- but has been taking antibiotics since October 1.


So, why was she even tested if the package tested negative?
Why was she taking Antibiotics since Oct 1st - They claim they just found out she tested positive today, Oct 12
AND.....How could she have gotten it at all if package was negative?

After receiving the mail last month, NBC said it immediately contacted the FBI, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the New York Department of Health.

``The mail was tested by these organizations, and the employee was treated by several physicians. All these tests came back negative,'' NBC said Friday. ``However, this morning, a later test on the employee came back positive for traces of cutaneous anthrax.''



This happened at teh end of September before teh FL case happened, why were they frantically testing her for Anthrax by all these physicians, especially if the package tested negative????

Why do I get the feeling there is a LOT we are not being told........

Gee, ya think? This is the government we are talking about here. We're not prepared for a bio attack and since there's nothing we can do there's really no sense in letting us know about it.

For precautionary reasons.

For prophylactic reasons. They suspected she might have been exposed to Anthrax, so they started her on antibiotics. The tests came back negative AFTER she began the antibiotics. Testing for anthrax isn't like testing for sugar in urine, it takes at least 24 - 48 hours.

You presume that the anthrax is being spread by these mysterious letters with white powdery residue. That does not seem to be the case. There have now been at least 5 reports of these letters with mysterious powdery residue, and not a single one has tested positive for anthrax - ALL have been false alarms.

On Edit: I think someone is having a little fun with this. It would almost seem as if they are exposing targeted individuals to anthrax, not any large numbers of people. The upside, you don't need to actually make some biological device, but the panic and fear created by a dozen small exposures is almost as good.
