How do investigators just find all these dead bodies buried in the ground? Do they just let their dogs wander around and follow them until they start digging into the ground to find remains?

I've always wondered how investigators find where bodies are hidden in the ground...

And for all those deaths that go unreported / mysterious, are their bodies just in the ground with no clues behind where the body is or who did it?

animals, wind, water might unearth something (hand, piece of clothing, etc). Beyond that, I think it's just running a sensitive dog around the areas where they think a body might be.

1. People fess up to burying them
2. Other people besides law enforcement find them
3. Dogs sniff them out
4. etc. etc. etc.

but I'm sure that there are TONS of bodies that are buried but not found because no one knows to look in the area
If murderers just kept the mouths shut and buried their victim's bodies in one night (so no suspicion about days missing), there wouldn't be any problems with getting away for them...

if you bury the body deep enough in your backyard (so no strangers dogs enter / smell the area), I'm pretty sure that no one would notice

Good luck digging a hole that deep without anyone noticing.

Yep. The police talk to your neighbors and find out you just dug a huge hole...they are going to ask questions.

Murdering someone would require human contact. ATOT'ers don't do such things.

Are there machines that can also detect areas that has recently been disturbed? Cops can use if they suspect a body's been buried I presume.

You're making it out to be way too simple. go talk to a homicide detective and ask them the same questions.

But then you would still have to bury the body.

Don't a handful of bodies show up in the Hudson Bay every year after the river thaws out. I remember hearing something like that.

That's why I always run the bodies I'm disposing of through a woodchipper first. If tiny pieces are scattered over a couple of hundred acres even the best dog won't find enough to be a problem.

If I was to dispose of a body I would go to the hardware store and buy a bunch of stuff to redo a bathroom downstairs (tiles, new sink etc) then rent a jack hamer as I'd have go go through the cement to redo the plumbing. Then when you dig the hole for the plumbing, pour a bit of cement to form a giant "bowl". put body in while its still wet, then finish pouring the cement. Continue to redo the bathroom. Body should probably also be very well sealed just in case it can somehow penetrate through the cement.

The reason for redoing the bathroom is that having all the supplies around would cause zero suspicion.

It's actually scary that I've thought this out. I've never killed nor plan to kill anyone, honest. :p

And then never use that bathroom again because it would be really creepy.

That would still show up as a cavity if they did a sonar/radar type thing to see how solid the floor is, since the body would have a different density than the cement
