Here are the things which make no sense to me:

1) Cylons are robots, yet they can impersonate humans almost perfectly.

2) Cylon fighters are controlled by organic stuff and can be flown by sticking a tube in your mouth.

3) Cylons' spines glow red during sex.

4) The humans apparently left earth (abducted by aliens?) during the time of the Ancient Greeks, hence the pantheon of gods and names like "Thrace", "Apollo", etc. But they have radios that look like they are from the 80s, and wear modern business suits.

I can write the last one off to low budget, but come on. The Cylon thing makes no sense.

Let me reference a bit of Peter Griffin philosophy for you.

"Why?"

They're probably clones...with an mind imprint from Cyon high command

2) Cylon fighters are controlled by organic stuff and can be flown by sticking a tube in your mouth.
They are playing up the organic machine thing...

party trick.

It's not the 'earth' universe so the 'greek' references are their OWN pantheon... it's no where in our timeline.

It is the "earth" universe. The humans are FROM earth, and are trying to return. There's no Pythia making prophecies in another universe, or snakes, or 80s radios!

Ok... it's not OUR earth universe.. I've always though that the Greek references were because the Greek mythology survived into an advanced technological future... like there was no christianity or something....

You're saying that Greek mythology somehow came to be in another universe? Along with snakes, noodles, canned food, 80s radios, and suits? I think it's pretty obvious that they are from this earth.

Edit: Nevermind. I guess you mean another universe as in all TV shows and movies... With a different history for the human race.

Did you watch the mini-movie?

Is it not horrible horribly obvious that "Cylon" is a take on "Cyborg"? Which would mean that these things are part organic and part machine?

I can't believe you made me waste my 5000'th post to explain this to you.

It isn't that big of a stretch... Humans created Cylons, the Cylons became self-aware, revolted against the masters, and then left to start their own race. They are still computationally based, and view humans as a threat that must be destroyed.

Even in the technology of our generation, we are seeing the hybridization between mechanical and biological technology. Is it that much of a stretch to think that the Cylons have taken another step in that direction?

As far as your other comments go:

1) The human-Cylons are robots and are part of some sort of Cylon network, but they are organic. They were genetically engineered, altered, and bred to perfectly represent humans so they can infiltrate society and the military.

2) Breeding an organism whose sole job/programming is to fly a fighter intelligently makes a lot more sense than trying to program a computer to do the same thing. Organic brains are far more complex and capable than electronic brains.

3) Starbuck didn't fly the ship with the tube... pay more attention to the episode.

4) The full story hasn't been revealed to us yet... Earth may just be a "lost" colony.

If you haven't been watching the show from the beginning, I can see how it can be confusing. Even missing a couple of shows could be really confusing... However, I honestly think that BG is the best sci-fi series on TV, especially with Enterprise going off the air.

The new show makes perfect sense, especially if you know anything about the original show .

If you're gonna knock the new show for using the names of Greek gods or 80s radios, etc. then you need to knock Star Wars for having its main characters speak English. I mean, Jeez... it's fictional symbolism. If they used odd god names or dressed funny, the viewers would have a more difficult time understanding the show.

I watched the old show, the new one, "frakin" sucks. (seriously, lay of the word frak, it makes them all look like complete idiots.)

I assumed that the Cylons were supposed to be pure machine, because of the fact that the humans had treated them like machines. Cy doesn't automatically mean "cyborg". According to Wikkipedia, "Cyber is a prefix stemming from cybernetics and loosely meaning through the use of a computer. "

The whole technology things is explained in the pilot - no networked computers on board Galactica - for fear of computer virus. I'm sure this would carry over to everything else. Hell, they've even figured out how to hit cell phones and cars with viruses these days.

Everything is old fashioned and durable, simple to fix. Makes perfect sense. And they pull it off.

It isn't a complete fantasy world like Star Trek where they can "reconfigure the warp field" for time travel, or come up with a cure for a virus that's wiping out a planet in like an hour.

In BSG, they have real problems (like running out of fuel), or people dying of cancer (the President), or Starbuck layed up in sickbay for week with a bad knee - no miracle cures here.

The hanger bay looks like a aircraft carrier, with people in different color uniforms based on their function.

I find it all very realistic. In Star Trek, somebody holding a phone with a cord would stick out like a sore thumb. In BSG, it somehow...fits.

Plus, they've probably saved enough in special effects to go another few seasons!

And lastly, the show isn't really about the special effects at all. This where they kick Star Trek's ass. People ultimately get sick of bells and whistles after a while and want some substance (storyline).

But would people from another planet have phones that look like ours? And SUITS?

Well, since we're supposed to be the same species, I don't think it's a stretch - what with the concept of parallel evolution and all.

Plus, I buy it a lot more than all the aliens on Star Trek speaking English.
